#Cannes2026 « Le destin des vaches n’est pas une chose lointaine. C’est pourquoi les représenter était une manière de me représenter moi-même »

Prêt•es à écarquiller les yeux ? Voici #Eri, court métrage d’animation réalisé par la Japonaise #HonamiYano. Dans ce film dévoilé à la Quinzaine des Cinéastes, une vache laitière tombe amoureuse d’une autre vache. Cela pourrait être adorable, mais le ton halluciné et la surprenante perspective déformée emmènent "Eri" ailleurs.

Il est question d’amour, mais aussi d’angoisse et de mort. Sous les pétales roses surgissent des questions existentielles. Voilà un film joyeusement déroutant, imprévisible, et qui fait preuve d’une personnalité très prometteuse. Honami Yano a une double actualité cannoise puisqu’elle est la concept designer du pavillon japonais, pays à l’honneur cette année au Marché du Film. Honami Yano’s new short 'Eri' premieres in this year's Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, and we're thrilled to exclusively debut its first trailer. The hand-painted film follows a Holstein who falls in love with another cow in a world where survival depends on reproduction.

Every frame was painted in acrylic directly onto transparent cels, inspired by one of Yano's dreams, extensive research, and field trips to farms across different seasons.

Our full interview dives into the making of 'Eri,' including nocturnal inspirations, casting cows in the lead roles, and building a queer love story around the realities of dairy farming ahead of the film’s Cannes premiere.
