That's Honda Nationals 2026 run and done!

Hopefully, all our friends and fellow competitors made it home safe.

Thank you again to the organization team behind @hondanationals. Your sacrifice of time throughout the year and sunstroke on the day(s) is greatly appreciated!

We had a great couple of days at Winton.

The fastest lap videos from the sedan and jazz are now on our YouTube channel, and we'll do a full debrief post later in the week.

The cars we are taking to Honda Nationals 2026 are the GE8 Jazz and EH9 Civic.

Grant will be driving the Civic. If you see him in the pits without a tool in hand, feel free to say hello.

We'll be there on both Friday and Saturday. The Jazz will run on Friday, and all going well, the Civic will do both days.

Hope everyone's prep is going well. Safe travels to those travelling from interstate during the week.

See you there! by @honed_developments

We have completed the rear sway bar build for the GE8.

It took a few hours of mucking around to come up with a bracket/attachment design that allowed the torsion bar tube to be held in the right place while still being able to be installed and removed without dropping the twist beam, but it was achievable.

In the end, all the sway bar-related components came to 7.5kg, which is pretty significant. Some of these things could be remade from aluminium in the future.

We have two sizes of torsion bar, with the smaller (softer) of the two and the adjustment set to its middle stiffness setting; there is still a bit of independence in the rear suspension, so we don't believe we have overshot the desirable stiffness range.

The track event is on the 16th of October, so we'll know whether this is a net benefit then! by @honed_developments

Today, we have for you the results of the Bourne HPP drop-in K-series cams in our K20z4

We saw an 8kw gain at 8,000 rpm, and there were no losses anywhere else in the rev range.

We were a bit surprised that there was no improvement in the 6,000 to 7,000 rpm range. This might be due to the intake or exhaust setup.

We wanted to test just one change at a time, so we didn’t swap the oil pump when we installed the cams.

But the results suggest our next move should be to go ahead and make the changes to the engine to allow it to run out to 9100rpm or so, and then we might be able to take full advantage of the benefits these cams can offer.

The K20z4 comes with a 2:1 ratio oil pump and balance shafts in its original form. Most people recommend not revving engines with this oil pump past about 8,500 rpm.

Fortunately, this can be changed out for a 1.6:1 ratio pump, such as the FD2R or Type S version, which also doesn’t have balance shafts.

We were previously aware of the two different oil pumps but didn’t fully appreciate that they actually have different drive ratios.

If/when we make this change, we’ll be sure to share what actually happens with more revs.

Someone asked in an earlier post how these cams might work in a K24A3. We’ve included a slide comparing this car with a CL9, and it looks like they could work well.

We are trying to optimise the FN2R for the high speed Phillip Island circuit, so we will be accessing that high rpm where we have made a gain and look forward to driving the car again to experience that by @honed_developments

This week, we installed the Bourne HPP drop-in cams in the K20z4 K-series engine of our FN2R Civic.

As these cams are designed to work with the OE valve springs, installation is straightforward and can be done with the engine in the car.

Initially, we tried to complete the install without disturbing the timing chain cover, but ultimately found it much easier to be confident in the timing and tensioner setup by removing the chain cover and then setting the timing and releasing the tensioner.

Its dyno date is this coming Tuesday, and we’re keen to see how these cams affect the engine by @honed_developments

Now that our B18 is running smoothly without any misfires, we can focus on fixing the uneven power curve.

When we posted the results, the comments were filled with helpful suggestions.

By no means are we sure the intake is the main culprit, but it’s the one we are interested in trying alternatives for first (or at the same time as a larger exhaust).

The slides show most of what’s going on, but here’s a written summary.

We measured the primary runner length of both the original intake manifold and the aftermarket one currently on the engine. The aftermarket manifold is much shorter than the original.

We have increased the rev limit from 8000 to 8600, which is significant, but it's not a drastic change.

So that motivated us to compare the dyno curves of the car with the OE intake and the aftermarket intake, and that comparison was interesting.

It looks like maybe a longer primary runner would be better for our engine.

We dug out an old custom intake for the B-series and started working on a design with adjustable runners.

After a few design tweaks, we now have a concept that can adjust from about 177mm to 272mm, depending on what fits in the engine bay.

Our next step is to get this intake made so we can test it on the dyno.

Honda Nationals 2026 is coming up fast,

There’s still time to place your Honed orders, receive your parts, and get them installed before the event.

You don’t need much to get out on track, but you do need a fire extinguisher mounted in the cabin, and we have mounting brackets to suit many Hondas

Maybe you’ve been eyeing off a Camber Arm upgrade; we have those too

If you’ve organised some new larger wheels and tyres to try to drop lap time, you might need to tune your bump travel or steering lock with our Bump Stop Spacers or Lock Reducing Race Spacers by @honed_developments

We worked all Saturday on the GE8 Rear Swaybar setup, but didn’t quite get it finished to the point of taking photos for a full post.

But here’s a short video update showing how the end link sneaks up between the spring and the spare wheel well.

Preloaders also take note of how loose the spring is at full extension; this is with 6kg/mm rear springs. by @honed_developments

The misfire in the Honed Sedan is finally fixed!

All it took was rebuilding the engine 🫠

While the power output still isn’t quite where we want it yet, we’ve confirmed that rebuilding the bottom end fixed the oil-burning problem that was causing the misfire.

We knew the car wasn’t misfiring during the dyno session, but in the past, that didn’t always mean it would run smoothly on track.

To be sure the misfire was really gone, we had to test it on track, which we did this past Sunday at Calder Park.

Grant drove the car for two sessions in the morning. We ended up packing up after that because there’s a minor oil leak from the sump gasket or oil pump seal.

Safer to fix that at the shop and try again another day.

The oil pressure data looks good, and coolant temps are steady, if a little on the cold side.

All in all, we're pretty pleased.

@averyclevertitle came by to take some photos of the car; thanks to him, as always! by @honed_developments
