In a world full of shit, honeybunches Of DEATH is sitting on the toilet. Waist of Money, the comedy metal band’s second album, does everything it can to deliver on its title. From an important public service announcement and dark potty humor to the Emperor’s Horny Juice and a man fatally ingesting a toy train on a dare, this album is nothing but radio-ready, get-money-quick hits. Rooted in groove and thrash metal, Waist of Money’s riffs are inspired by bands like Avatar, Pantera, and Lamb of God, while its lyrics evoke comedy acts like Tenacious D, Steel Panther, and Weird Al. If you see them live, it’s like watching GWAR and KISS have an orgy in the middle of a UFC fight. After honeybunches Of DEATH’s initial run from 2003-2006, bandleader Rob Lane spent 14 years away from his creation, which nagged at the back of his mind until one day honeybunches Of DEATH was reborn. The band’s self-titled debut album (2023) featured reworkings of old tracks like “Ooey Gooey” and “Evolution Created God,” reintroducing the world to a band hellbent on its de-stupidification. In 2024, honeybunches Of DEATH began work on an album of entirely new material, sharing demos of “Show Me Your Butthole,” “Don’t Do the Necrophilia,” and “Meat and Fish” as they found their final form in live performances. “Show Me Your Butthole,” Waist of Money’s grand finale, evolved into a live ritual, as two reluctantly lucky members of the audience were summoned to blow smoke out of giant buttholes on stage while moshers formed conga lines that stretched around venues. Waist of Money was written to improve public health, therapeutically addressing divisive social issues such as necrophilia, binge-drunk-driving, and men dressing up as cows hoping to be “milked.” Uncompromising in integrity, honeybunches Of DEATH stands on four pillars: education, advocation, illumination, and lubrication.
