**Since I lost the audio on the original I have re-uploaded**

I started a blowdry bar before I knew how to blowdry.

Sounds ridiculous… but it’s true.

I wasn’t a hairdresser.
I didn’t have any salon experience.
I just had a business idea I couldn’t stop thinking about.

So I researched everything I could.
I learnt how to blowdry.
Built a brand from scratch.
And together we opened the doors.

For the next two and a half years I poured everything into that business. I learnt marketing, branding, customer experience, content creation, photography, videography and what it really takes to grow a business from nothing.

Would I recommend opening a business in an industry you know nothing about? Not without being willing to learn relentlessly.

That chapter taught me skills I’ll use for the rest of my life, and it’s the reason Honey Social exists today.

Sometimes you’re not waiting to feel qualified.

Sometimes you become qualified because you were brave enough to start.

Have you ever taken a leap before you felt ready?

I have so much respect for people who take risks in business.
It’s easy to judge from the sidelines. Much harder to put yourself out there knowing things might not work.
But trying, learning, pivoting and adapting is literally how businesses grow.

I used to hate speaking up in class. I’d sit there knowing the answer and say nothing, because quiet felt safe.

Then my mum told me I wouldn’t be seen if I didn’t speak up. Then recruitment taught me that confidence is often just acting confident until it becomes real. Then I started my own business and learned everything on the job.

I still get nervous. I’ve just got used to doing it scared, and I grow every single time.

The Do It Scared Theory…

Do it scared” is the idea that confidence doesn’t come before action, it comes from it. Most people wait to feel ready, but feeling ready usually shows up after you’ve done the thing a few times.

Why it works:

• Courage is acting despite fear. Nerves don’t mean you’re not cut out for it. They usually mean it matters to you.
• Avoiding feeds the fear. Each time you skip it, your brain learns that it was dangerous and you were right to stay away. Each time you do it anyway, it learns you can handle it.
• Reps build confidence. The first time is shaky, the fifth is easier, the twentieth feels normal. That’s the “acting confident until it becomes real” I learned in recruitment.
• Waiting for ready is a moving goalpost. There’s always one more thing to learn first.

Doing it scared doesn’t mean doing it unprepared or ignoring your limits. It means taking the next small, doable step, not leaping into the deep end.

Public speaking is next on my list. I’ll keep you posted. 👀🤢

Quietly moving 👀 I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. As I step into my newest chapter, I’m trusting the timing, doing the work, and patiently waiting for the right opportunity. When it comes, I’ll be ready. by @honeyitschloe

Somebody’s nan probably donated this trench and I’m honoured to carry on her legacy. Charity shop finds often mean individual pieces that are NOT on everybody else. I love a good rummage. My L U C K Y necklace was also from the charity shop.

I just wore this outfit to the cinema to see the film ‘Verity’. I haven’t read the book but defo feel like I need to now!

Imagine not trying anything because you’re too scared you’ll be judged? My auntie Bev always taught me to say fuck it… I’ve grown so much using that motto and I’m grateful for everything I’ve achieved. Life comes in chapters: like friendships, jobs and interests. So it’s important to try different things because the version of you who tried it, wobbled, and figured it out is so much further ahead than the version who stayed comfortable. Chapters end. That’s the point. So say fuck it, start the next one, and let the people who judge you stay in the last. by @honeyitschloe

We overthink everything. When sometimes we just need to get out of our own way. When you watch other people’s or brands accounts, think about what you like about them. I bet it’s because there’s some personality behind it. You can’t grow a brand without it. It becomes predictable, it becomes boring. So even if you end up saying ‘actually’ a million times. Make light and move on. People want to see that you’re real. Entrepreneurship is a real journey and real feelings. Stop waiting and start posting.

Three years ago I had an idea, pitched it to someone I’d just met, and built a business from nothing. Today I’m building again—but this time it’s a business that feels more like me. Here’s what I’m doing differently…

This time I’m choosing alignment over obligation.

The first business taught me I can build.
This one is teaching me to build on my own terms.

You can be ambitious and want a slower, fuller life.

You can want the money, the success, the freedom and the big dreams…

…but also want time for your family, spontaneous days out, holidays, fresh air and moments where you’re not thinking about work.

Because what’s the point of building a business that looks successful from the outside if you’re too exhausted to enjoy the life it was supposed to create?

Build the business. But don’t forget to build the life too.

7 months ago I created this reel. I was feeling burnt out and frustrated. I know first hand what it feels like to run a business. This is why I created Honey Social. I want to help support that. This can’t always be about selling but also you need to show who is behind the business, how you feel, why you do what you do. That connects to the people that buy.

I see you! taken in Milton Keynes by @honeyitschloe
