WATCH ME BRING THIS DRUM BACK TO LIFE!

Just like humans, drums are not all perfect. Sometimes we need to give them a bit more love, care and attention. The good thing is with the timber you are dealing with, when you know what you're doing you can bring any drum back to full structural integrity using the right materials, tools and know-how and they sound as good as ever and the workmanship and the love given by the drum maker or the repair man is ingrained in the shell itself as well. Another spirit is the spirit of the animal, the spirit of the Carver, the spirit of the tree and the spirit of the repair man.

Let the echoes of the drums speak for those who cannot; the voice of a voiceless animal!

Watch the raw timber transformation

I made a SACRED CONTRACT though.

Peradventure you've seen me protecting it with all i have. I entered a life-long agreement with it when i took it up: to honor the CULTURE that birthed it, carry its teachings with INTEGRITY and protect its SPIRIT. It has to be FED, CARED FOR and RESPECTED , for it open DOORWAYS of the seen and unseen; A place where spirits moves, ancestors answer and healing happen.

A drum is more than just a wood and the skin, for it is the reincarnation of a dead animal skin speaking in human utterances.

The Female Lagbaja 👸⭐️

Lagbaja represents the face of the faceless. I represent the face of women who refuse to remain voiceless. 👑

Through this performance, I celebrate the courage of women who dare to speak, stand up for themselves, and make their voices heard.

Because every woman deserves to be seen, heard, and represented.

Someone once said “Your consistency and hardwork wows me. For non theatre students who still have to grapple with their primary disciplines, this is mind blowing.”

And to us, it is more than just a comment or compliment. It was recognition for the silent effort, the balancing act, the late nights after classes, and the determination to keep showing up for what we love.

Truth is, sometimes it amazes us too. How people studying completely different courses can still come together to create magic on stage. We are students from different disciplines, carrying different dreams, yet united by one stage, one story, and one love for theatre

But maybe that is what passion does.
It stretches you, shapes you, and keeps you going even when it gets difficult.

This is not just a play.
It is proof that art can live anywhere passion exists🎭✨

The Trials of Àfọ̀njá_ will be LIVE, 1:00PM on the _6th of May, 2026_ at Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Lecture Theatre..
