Torchbearer Hall is more than a residence hall. It is the all-new home base for our incoming students. 🧡

Beginning in fall 2027, first-year Honors students will live steps from Circle Park in a modern community designed for connection, collaboration, and big ideas. From suite-style living, study rooms, lounges, and a community kitchen to expansive outdoor space and the UT Creamery right downstairs, every detail creates room to live well and learn boldly. 🏠

This is where an Honors experience takes shape and where new traditions, confidence, and community begin.

Last night, I got to spend time with our first-year Haslam Leadership Scholars getting to know their interests, what excites them about their education, and their aspirations.

Thank you to Mr. Haslam for helping welcome this remarkable group of students as they begin their leadership journeys at @utknoxville. It is incredible to witness the leadership potential and bonds that are forming across this cohort just a few months into their first semester.

I cannot wait to see how these scholars lead, serve, and make their mark on our campus and beyond. 🍊 by @honorsutk

Earlier this week, we were honored to welcome Chancellor Donde Plowman for an evening with our Honors community.

Leadership is not limited to a position. It is shaped by curiosity, conviction, and a willingness to serve others. Through thoughtful conversation, Chancellor Plowman invited students to consider the opportunities before them and the responsibility they hold to make a meaningful difference.

Thank you, Chancellor Plowman, for sharing your time and perspective with our scholars. The dialogue, and the energy that carried into the reception afterward, made for an inspiring evening. 🍊 by @honorsutk

This fall, University Honors was proud to welcome our largest-ever incoming class with 758 scholars. 🍊

From high-impact experiences and leadership development opportunities to new fellowship pathways in health, business and public policy, University Honors is focused on building on its top-10 national ranking and better serving high-achieving students.

The future of University Honors is bright, ambitious and just getting started.

From engineering projects across the country to law school at UT, Micah Owens is building a path defined by curiosity, adaptability, and leadership. ✨

A May 2024 Industrial and Systems Engineering graduate and former Haslam Leadership Scholar, Micah began her career as an associate engineer with Messer Americas in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas before returning to Rocky Top as a Winston Fellow at the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Micah says Honors expanded her view of the possibilities ahead, while preparing her to navigate complex challenges and collaborate across diverse teams. Her experience in the Haslam Scholars Program also showed her the value of close-knit, interdisciplinary cohorts, inspiring her to seek a similarly meaningful community in law school.

We are proud to celebrate Micah as she continues her Volunteer journey! by @honorsutk

Honors students, your next lesson on leadership comes with a very special guest. ✨

Join Chancellor Donde Plowman for a conversation on leadership, purpose, and making an impact on Rocky Top. Then stay for a reception with fellow Honors Vols and continue the conversation beyond the lecture hall.

📅 Monday, October 19
📍 Lecture: Student Union, Room 180 | Reception: Student Union East Lawn

As an added bonus, attendees will be entered to win a football experience for the UT vs. Kentucky game!

Our house was loud, messy, and competitive tonight.

We brought our sophomore and junior Haslam Leadership Scholars over for dinner, darts, flag football, and cup pong. The sophomores walked away with the win!

I tell our scholars all the time that real leadership does not grow in quiet lecture halls. It happens right here, around dinner tables and in backyards when people drop their guard and show up for one another. You cannot do big things in the world if you do not know how to build a team first.

Proud of this crew. Days like this make me love what I do on Rocky Top.

Shout out to my amazing kids, Anthony and Avery and their friends, John and Aubrey for joining the fun. by @honorsutk

A little midweek reminder of why Fall Festival remains an Honors favorite. 🍂 This annual tradition gives Vols a chance to pause, celebrate the season, and enjoy an evening together! by @honorsutk

This summer, Chancellor’s Honors student McKenzie Nguyen interned with the Metro Drug Coalition, where she helped create prevention curriculum for elementary and middle school students, support substance-use education presentations, develop youth leadership training, and plan ThriveFest.

McKenzie credits Honors with building her confidence in connecting with others and surrounding her with a community that continues to support her. With encouragement from her honors counselor, Ryan McCormack, and the friendships she made in the Honors LLC, she has learned to pursue meaningful opportunities while making space for self-care.

We’re proud of the impact McKenzie is making for young people and families across Knoxville. 🍊 by @honorsutk

Last night, more than 600 Honors Vols came together to celebrate the arrival of fall with a petting zoo, line dancing, fresh bouquets, painted pumpkins, mechanical bull rides, and plenty of laughter along the way.

Beyond the classroom, Honors is a place to find community, make memories, and enjoy traditions that bring Vols together! 🧡🍂 by @honorsutk

Choosing a college starts with curiosity, and that's exactly what I saw during Friday's Volunteer Scholars Day.

Welcoming scholars and their families to Rocky Top is always so special, and I love hearing about the questions they’re asking, the goals they’re pursuing, and the experiences they hope to find in college.

Later, I joined Associate Dean Morris and Dean Mangum for the Haslam 50 Reception, celebrating a new fellowship between @haslamut and @honorsutk that empowers Tennessee’s top 50 business scholars to become exceptional business professionals.

So much energy, thoughtfulness, and possibility in one day. Thanks to everyone who spent part of it with us. 🍊 by @honorsutk
