some pictures from the eastern cape 🤎🍃 children playing with water on a hot summer's day; the funeral service tent being lugged back to its owner; the most beautiful tree with speckles of houses in the background; sibahle resorting to self timer and, waiting on the car tyre to be fixed. this place gently calms my spirit and heals my heart. maybe it's because i get to visit my ancestors' graves and dip my toes in the same river i used to play in when i was younger. i don't know but i really like how i feel when i'm here. taken in Cala by @hoodwhimsy

these are the tin-roofed shacks and brightly-coloured houses that made way for the concrete roads i played on growing up. there is so much beauty here. so much love. and joy. there is so much pain here. so much anger. and sadness. khayelitsha's beauty is infinitely complex but it is still worth noting. its duality is what makes it whole. like the dual nature of light. sometimes it behaves like a particle. other times, like a wave. but i'm sure that if we gave it the chance it could behave like neither. become an entity of its own that needs no observation. no objectification. and especially, no romanticism. marginalised spaces deserve to have their wholeness seen. and marginalised people deserve spaces that will allow them to refract their reality and create it anew. my room has been my space. what has yours been? by @hoodwhimsy
