We got engaged in October 2023 and went straight into full wedding-planning mode. But at the beginning of 2024, I got really sick, and suddenly all of those plans had to be put on pause.

I went to more than three hospitals, was hospitalized, and no doctor could find a way to relieve the pain I was going through. I had a hematoma sitting on one of my kidneys and was in excruciating pain 24/7. I barely ate, barely slept, and there were days when it felt like there was no relief in sight.

Through all of it, E was there.

He worked graveyard and, as tired as he was, would still drive to the hospital to stay with me. He barely slept because he was too busy making sure I was comfortable. When I finally had an appetite, he would go get whatever food I was craving. He catered to my every need and even took shifts with my parents and siblings so I would never have to be in that hospital alone.

And when I was finally discharged, his love and care didn’t stop. He was right there through my recovery too.

Yes, we have our ups and downs like any couple. Sometimes we get so caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of life that it’s easy to forget the moments that really showed us what our love is made of.

But when I pause and thank God for everything He has blessed me with, I remember that season.

When I was down, he was there.

No judgment.
No pity.
Just pure love.

He loved me past the pain. He cared for me when I couldn’t care for myself, and he stayed beside me through one of the scariest seasons of my life.

Sometimes love isn’t the engagement, the wedding plans, the dates, or the big romantic gestures. Sometimes love is showing up exhausted after working all night just so the person you love doesn’t have to be alone.

And he showed up. Again and again.

Thank you, Lord, for this man.
