Our first ever Hoops 4 Her camp is in the books!

Over 50 middle school and high school girls came together at Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya for a week of basketball, mentorship, and empowerment. Each day, the Moi University Women’s Basketball Team coached the girls on the court, while off the court, we held health and empowerment sessions to help them grow in confidence and leadership.

We’re so grateful for the support that made this possible and for the amazing connections we built. This is just the beginning—we can’t wait to keep growing and empowering more girls through basketball.

Hi!! My name is Fina Kessler, Founder of the nonprofit Hoops 4 Her, and I’m a junior at Shawnee Mission East High school! Last summer I traveled to Kenya and visited some of the village schools and brought soccer balls for the kids! By doing so I became aware of the lack of sports equipment there, and the lack of female involvement in those sports. That is why I was inspired to start Hoops 4 Her. Hoops 4 Her is an organization that strives to empower girls through basketball, starting with an all-girls basketball camp in Kenya this summer! The goal is to empower girls there through the sport of basketball and to teach important life skills. Stay tuned for more information and ways to help! by @hoops4her

What an amazing few weeks. SO grateful for these opportunities and the support behind Hoops 4 Her! From winning the Next Great Idea Pitch to competing as a finalist in the Student Chamber Business Pitch, this prize money is helping make our mission a reality. I also got to meet so many other amazing young entrepreneurs.
This is just the start! 🙌🤍😊

We wanted to make a special appreciation post for the amazing Shawnee Mission East community!

Thank you to everyone who donated shoes through our shoe campaign, to the SME Female Athlete Club for packing female hygiene kits, and for supporting our mission the past 2 years. We distributed these supplies to our campers today, and we’re so grateful for your generosity and support. We couldn’t do it without you!

Go check out our second feature on KSHB 41 News!

So grateful to work with Tod Palmer on this story, and we can’t wait to share what’s in store for Year 2! Thanks to our partnership with GABL, we will be able to host even more campers along with providing each girl with basketball shoes, a basketball, a notebook, and more.

The biggest piece of feedback we received from the girls at our 2025 Kenya camp was simple: basketball shoes.

Many girls came to camp wearing flip-flops, worn-out shoes, or shoes that didn’t fit, making it harder to play the game they love. This year, we want to change that.

For just $30, you can provide one girl with a new pair of basketball shoes, giving her the opportunity to play with confidence, stay safe on the court, and continue using them long after camp ends.

If you’re able to give, thank you. And if you can’t donate, sharing this post with your family and friends would mean so much to us. Together, we can make sure every girl steps onto the court ready to play. by @hoops4her

So excited to officially announce our partnership with GABL! 🏀💙

As a former GABL player, this partnership is especially meaningful to me. Basketball has had such a huge impact on my life, and it’s incredible to now work together to help create opportunities for girls through Hoops 4 Her.

This summer, GABL is supporting our Kenya Basketball & Empowerment Camp by donating basketballs, jerseys, and more for the girls attending camp. We are so grateful for their support and excited for all that’s to come with this partnership!! Stay tuned to see the GABL+H4H basketball and jersey mock ups coming soon… by @hoops4her

We’re so excited to officially announce that Hoops 4 Her is returning to Kenya this August for our 2026 Basketball & Empowerment Camp at Moi University!!

Because of the incredible support from our community, we’ve officially reached our goal and are preparing for an even bigger camp this year, with more girls, better equipment, and more opportunities to empower young women through sport.

It’s exciting to see the girls continue training and growing since our 2025 camp. The women’s basketball team at Moi University has continued mentoring and working with many of the same girls throughout the year, and we cannot wait to build on that impact together this summer.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Hoops 4 Her and believed in this mission. Keep your eye out for a potential partnership announcement soon… by @hoops4her

Super exciting update from Kenya!!

The girls from our 2025 Hoops 4 Her summer camp have continued training with the Moi University women’s team, and it’s incredibly meaningful to see the work carrying on beyond the camp itself. They’ve been consistently showing up, putting in the effort, and developing their skills each week.

It’s especially encouraging to see more girls from the community joining and the overall passion for the game continuing to grow.

We are so grateful to the Moi University team, especially June, for taking this initiative past our original efforts and embracing Hoops 4 Her’s mission to the fullest. I’m so grateful to everyone on the ground making this possible and look forward to returning this summer to see their continued progress.

This is just the beginning…
