🎙️UEBO President & former EuroLeague referee Sreten Radović answers the burning questions on officiating, fan bias, and late-game calls:

On the Campazzo call & late-game fouls:

“Because it happened in the final seconds of the biggest game of the season. In those moments, emotions are at their strongest, and people often judge the decision through the emotion of the result rather than through the action itself.

From an officiating perspective, the principle is simple: if an action is a foul in the fifth minute, it remains a foul in the final second. The scoreboard and the time remaining cannot change the criteria.

I experienced a similar situation at the Berlin Final Four two years ago, although on that occasion the result went the other way. That is sport. One day you win, another day you lose, and the emotions around those moments are enormous.

The strong reaction was understandable emotionally, but emotion cannot change the officiating criteria or the correct basketball decision. Consistency is especially important in the biggest moments, because that is when trust in the process matters most.”

On referee accuracy & being scapegoats:

“A crew makes ~600 decisions a game. If 12 are wrong, that’s still 98% accuracy. We accept players aren’t perfect, yet referees face automatic blame.”

On 16-camera replay technology:

“16 cameras in slow-mo create unrealistic expectations. Referees have only three pairs of eyes making real-time decisions under pressure.”

On accusations of referee bias:

“Fans consider fair 50-50 officiating as 50% of decisions for us and 50% against the visitors. Trust isn’t built overnight, but through consistency.”

#euroleague #olympiacosbc #paobc In the now-infamous Campazzo call, can you explain why there was such a strong reaction to a call that was obvious?

Because it happened in the final seconds of the biggest game of the season.
