POSTS STORIES REELS

Welcome to Hoosier Wild Co.

I’m an Indiana based wildlife photographer documenting the animals that call the Midwest home.

Reptiles are my specialty, but if it moves, flies, slithers, or crawls, I’m probably chasing it with a camera.

Every post includes one photo and one fact.

The goal is simple: appreciate what’s around us.

All images captured in the field.

My lifer queen snake (Regina septemvittata) ! This girl was found on a rocky bank in central Indiana. Such a beautiful species and often time overlooked as a garter or water snake. Super hyped about this find #queensnake #herplife #indiana #wildanimals herpetology by @hoosierwildco

Another day, another rat snake love seeing these guys. Went out today in hopes of finding a timber but no luck! Always next time #herp #snake #wildlife herpetology by @hoosierwildco

Check out this central Rat Snake (Pantherophis alleghaniensis) i cruised up on while heading to one of my fishing spots! First rat snake of the year for me! Always love seeing these guys. #herp #herptology #ratsnake #snake #herpindiana by @hoosierwildco

Check out this beauty — a Common Watersnake (Nerodia sipedon)!
Absolutely love running into these guys, They’re bold, curious, and full of personality… even if that personality includes being a little bitey and pretty stinky when stressed 😅 Still one of my favorite snakes to find!
Fun fact: These watersnakes are ovoviviparous meaning they don’t lay eggs. Instead, they carry them internally and give birth to live, free-swimming babies

The Eastern Black racer (Coluber constrictor) is in my book one of the most underrated snakes we have here in the Midwest. one of the fastest snakes in North America. Non-venomous and highly active during the day, these racers zip through forests, fields, and backyards hunting insects, lizards, rodents, and even other snakes

When threatened, Black Racers rapidly vibrate their tails in dry leaves or grass to mimic the buzzing sound of a rattlesnake

American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus)

Found this dude while trying to photograph a softshell turtle that’s been avoiding me like it owes me money.

• The American Bullfrog is the largest frog species in North America
• Capable of jumping over 6 feet in a single leap
• Males have a tympanum larger than the eye
