Proof that the best inspiration comes from getting out of the studio. 👀 Feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the CropCon field trip in Cleveland, Ohio. There’s something pretty special about being surrounded by a bunch of like-minded graphic designers - nerds who get excited about typography, illustration, paper, printing, weird little design details, (kerning and widows @nowhereland__ 😂 you know in Indesign …) and all the things that make our creative brains tick. It was a delight to work with the branding assets from @youngjerks 🤯 Dan and Dan, thank you for these inspiring graphics to design with. Introducing Slow Coast Craft Beer Branding & Label Design 🍻 Slow Coast is a playful, modern beer brand built around the idea that the coast isn’t a place, it’s a pace. The visual identity embraces a relaxed, easygoing lifestyle while keeping the packaging bold, colorful, and highly recognizable on the shelf. The centerpiece of the branding is the flowing “Slow Coast” graphic, designed as a continuous wave-like form that reinforces the brand’s coastal personality and sense of movement. Each beer variety uses the same core identity while introducing its own signature color—turquoise, blue, orange, and purple—making the lineup feel cohesive while allowing each style to stand apart. The labels use clean typography, minimal layouts, geometric shapes, and strong color blocking to create a contemporary craft beer aesthetic. Small details, including the simplified turtle illustration and supporting graphic elements, add personality and reinforce the laid-back coastal theme without competing with the primary branding. Having one illustration style in your toolbox is a mistake. I like to think if a client can dream it up, I can create it. I know it gets mixed feedback in the design community, but I truly feel you stifle yourself by only having one style. This not only limits your client base (hello income and bills), but also boxes you in. What if your one style isn’t popular or fades in the market? PLUS I think I’d get bored without variety. Anywho - long of the short … here are some hand lettering pieces I’ve been working on in my down time. I’m discovering it can be fun to draw letters and words. ➡️ These designs are available! I have a mild obsession with old cemeteries. 🖤 Something about the history, the mystery, the lives lived and laid to rest. I find myself wondering what their lives were like before modern conveniences - who they were, what they loved, and what stories they left behind. And then there are the tombstones. The lettering. The artistry. The craftsmanship of the stone. The ornate details, scrolls, symbols, and weathered marks of time. Honestly, I could spend hours studying them.
