Forgot to set up the camera for last night’s gig with Chris Mehos on Drums, Dylan Hewett on Bass and Fred Giilde sitting in on keys.

But it was a hell of a night. Here’s a little flashback to a brunch gig we did in East hampton might have to bring this chili peppers cover back for next Thursday’s session at Gosman’s 6 to 9.

So great to see so many familiar faces last night. Hope to see some more next week. Have a great weekend

Oh Ben. You came into my life like a big burly labrador wagging your tail, and up for anything. Throw me the ball! Throw me the ball! Let’s do this! Wild, enthusiastic, and surprisingly better trained than most of us out here trying to keep this music thing alive. You knew the theory, you knew the rules, and you ignored all of them.

Getting you to “learn” a song was an exercise in futility because you weren’t gonna stick with it anyway. Any chance you had to throw in a fill or rip a bass solo you took. On a 6 string bass? The Crocks and socks? And more recently the kind of half sitting down? WTF? You acknowledged and patiently disregarded the critics, myself included, and continued to do it your way.

But I felt like I could appreciate and understand where you were coming from and when it worked, it really was magic. Because what good is it to play the same song the same way every time? Who gives a fuck if you can play it like it was recorded last night, last year or 100 years ago? That’s a recording. That’s not life. That’s not now. It’s not doing anything new. You knew that and you knew enough about music and your instrument and people to know that we all crave some off the cuff see what happens kind of shit. We did a lot of that.

Everybody who played with us knew that I could throw anything out at you and you’d know what was going on even if you never heard it. We’d get there. Man, we had some good fucking jams. Maybe that’s why we would TALK about recording, but given the opportunity to sit in front of the computer and the microphones for a few hours or just get in the room and start playing we’d both choose the latter. We played God knows how many hours of music together. You never missed the gig. You might not respond. I might be unsure if you were gonna show up, but then there you were, coming in hot like there was no problem at all, no concern in the world…but I know you had plenty of them. by @hopefullyforgiven

This was Christmas. We played it again live@rosies.amagansett a few days later. Maybe it was that night. You can't see @d.hewett here but if you go to the hopefully forgiven YouTube it'll be up there shortly. To think in five months will be back there again-Christmas I mean. Maybe Rosie's. Definitely sooner for a burger...and round and round we go. by @hopefullyforgiven
