THANK YOU to @londonsclosetcharity who wrangled a bunch of wicked cute (and new, with tags) clothing donations from @agolde @citizensofhumanity 🙌 And also volunteered at last weekend’s Fall (free-of-charge) “Shopping” Event serving over 170 youth impacted by foster care.

Thank you to these TEENS helping other teens!!! #communitylove

Would you like to organize your own donation drive to support our upcoming holiday giving? We are a 501(c)3 non-profit and rely on volunteers and donations to spread our reach to LA’s most in need youth. To #leanin, Contact us at info@hopeinasuitcase.com by @hopeinasuitcase

THANK YOU @webenefitchildren for helping us to fill in last minute needed clothing and comfort items. Oftentimes we have gaps in sizes of certain donated items, especially shoes, and we still need to accommodate for all of our “shoppers” so that everyone feels seen and valued. That’s when grants and cash donations save us.

For our Fall Event this last weekend, @webenefitchildren enabled us to purchase blankets, as well as extra styles and sizes of shoes and clothing 🙏

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit. Please consider us for your year end giving or for corporate/employee gift matches. It takes a community to serve as many foster youth as we do. Contact us at info@hopeinasuitcase.com

WE LOVE @ipsy! Thank you @ipsy for CONSISTENTLY donating new, on-trend beauty products in a variety of colors that help us create a boutique shopping experience for teens impacted by foster care.

While beauty products aren’t essential items, they offer something important: the opportunity to experiment with different looks, explore personal style, and express individuality—just like any other teen.

Thanks to partners like IPSY, our teen shoppers have access to products they can choose for themselves and have fun with, because beauty products are fun! We appreciate you IPSY!!

Also, a big thanks to the Mother/Daughter volunteers from @ncl.losangeles who worked our make-up station with such sweet enthusiasm 💄♥️

We are a 501(c)3 non profit. If you have a corporate contact who would have interest in donating new items for our mission’s distribution, please contact info@hopeinasuitcase.org

Thank you to @roaches.and.jasmine.tea of @happytrails4kids for sharing your experience in foster care as a young child, and for comparing that experience to volunteering for Hope In A Suitcase now. We appreciate your warmth and kindness, which make up the best volunteers, but your depth of empathy for our “shoppers” is what is most valued and cherished. Thank you, Kenneth 💙 by @hopeinasuitcase

THANK YOU to bestselling author @michaelconnellybooks, creator of the beloved Harry Bosch series, for choosing to support Hope in a Suitcase in his current fund drive!

Harry Bosch’s story has a meaningful connection to our mission. Orphaned at age 11, Harry spent much of his childhood in foster homes and youth halls throughout Los Angeles. In Connelly’s newest novel, 🌟The Hollow🌟, releasing tomorrow, October 27, Harry makes a donation to Hope In A Suitcase. And in real life, Michael Connelly and his foundation have chosen to support us, too!
We’re incredibly honored to be part of Harry’s story and grateful for the opportunity to bring greater awareness to the needs of children and teens in foster care.

Pictured here is our (free-of-charge) “shopping” event yesterday, where we served more than 170 children and teens impacted by foster care. In order to support this work and as a 501(c)3, we rely on donations 🙏

MERCH ALERT! 📣 You can be part of this effort, too! Shop the Everybody Counts merchandise collection (it’s all so cool!) with proceeds supporting Hope in a Suitcase.

Thank you, Michael Connelly, The Hieronymus Foundation, and everyone helping us ensure that every child feels seen, valued, and cared for 👏🌈💙

It was an honor to be part of this wonderful Quinceañera celebration with @lacountydcfs for the third year in a row. We were able to provide five amazing young ladies with suitcases in their favorite color full of gifts catered to all their own personal styles and preferences. Thank you, DCFS, for including us in this milestone moment and its lasting impact. by @hopeinasuitcase

📣 UPDATE : thanks to our donors, volunteers and esteemed partner @makegoodinc , together we have helped 442 children and teens impacted by foster care start their school year feeling more confident and prepared.

At our August 2 Back to School event — plus an August 9 overflow event — we partnered with Make Good to outfit 273 kids with what they needed for the new school year.

And through our Boutique appointments, we helped another 169 kids. ➡️ That brings our Back to School total to 442 children!

Additionally, year to date, from January through the end of August, we provided 1,263 Shopping Opportunities through our Shopping Events and Boutique appointments — a 26% increase over the same period last year!

And that’s only one part of what we do. Those numbers don’t include the children served through our Hope Closets or the fully packed bags we deliver to children in urgent need.

Behind these numbers are children and teens who deserve to feel valued. New clothing and hygiene supplies help to prevent bullying and alleviate at least some stress when starting out in a new school away from familiar settings.

Thank you for helping us to help. 💙

“My foster youth and his siblings loved the (back-to-school shopping) event. He said it was so much fun, and he has never been treated so well before. He loves sports so his favorite part was receiving a jersey. The kids have unstable housing and are used to being deprived and going hungry. For one day, they were able to feel good having options of clothes to pick from and sufficient supplies for school. Due to chronic homelessness, the child is used to feeling like he is constantly in a state of losing homes, school, and friends. This event gave him materials to help him feel secure and well cared for as he starts the new school year. The hygiene supplies make than all feel clean, healthy, and excited to return to school. You gave these kids hope that life will get better.”

- An-How T. DCFS Social Worker

Special thanks to @makegoodinc for partnering on our Back to School "Shopping" event and specifically for the amazing school supplies!

We appreciate everyone who supports our mission, and then there is Roquesa, who lives it.

Roquesa Brown-Jordan has opened her home to more than 50 children in foster care, providing emergency and respite placements when kids needed somewhere safe to land. She and her husband also adopted their two children through foster care 💙

And somehow, she still has plenty of energy left for us.

Roquesa serves on the Hope in a Suitcase Board of Directors, bringing invaluable firsthand perspective to everything we do. She also works with @dacfs_corp , supporting youth with significant needs throughout Los Angeles County.

Our relationship with Roquesa actually started years ago at one of our early Shopping Days. Today, she is still showing up — often alongside her daughter, one of our amazing teen volunteers — bringing the kind joyful energy and enthusiasm that makes every event better.

And the partnership has grown right along with her.

Through our work with Dimondale, we’ve hosted their teens at our Self Care events, provided holiday gifts, and this year opened a Hope Closet at one of their facilities stocked with duffel bags, clothing and hygiene essentials. Already, more than 250 youth have received items through that closet.

Roquesa has said that kindness is a superpower.

After watching her open her home, give her time, share her experience, raise the next generation of volunteers, and keep showing up for kids year after year…

We think she might be living proof. 💥❤️

Thank you, Roquesa, for being such a huge part of the Hope in a Suitcase family. We are so lucky to have you.
