The new STYLET DLC lineup retains the same PEN MODE / N MODE / TOOL MODE three-mode system, materials, and core specifications as the existing STYLET SERIES. The biggest difference is the finish. BOLT / CHARGING LEVER / TOOL / CLIP All major components of the STYLET are finished with DLC coating. The deep black finish gives the STYLET a more tactical, solid, and substantial presence. Due to the complexity and difficulty of the DLC coating and finishing process across multiple components, this lineup has been produced in limited quantities. It was to integrate an automatic locking system while preserving every functional advantage and the original design philosophy that define SPINE EDC. That has been the core objective behind the development of SPINE FRONT LOCK. We focused on maintaining the compact carry profile, weight distribution, and structural integrity of the original SPINE EDC while introducing an entirely new locking mechanism. SPINE FRONT LOCK is also designed to allow complete disassembly and maintenance by the user. HORNET DEFENSE — New SPINE Lineup. This new SPINE began with a structural approach inspired by the MACE. Unlike conventional expandable batons, we focused on creating a more defined impact point on the first section and designed the structure to maximize that intended purpose. The first section of the SPINE EDC 15.5 weighs approximately 133g. The first section of the new SPINE lineup weighs approximately 176g. It is clearly thicker and heavier, but we continued to remove unnecessary weight throughout the overall structure while maintaining the approximately 70% forward weight balance of the existing SPINE series, allowing the user to retain natural and intuitive control. In the existing SPINE lineup, an air channel was integrated into the bottom cap to manage internal airflow during deployment and retraction. In the new SPINE, this function has been relocated to the side structure of the first section, allowing it to replace the air-channel function previously built into the bottom cap. HORNET DEFENSE Introducing the new SPINE SERIES. This new SPINE was designed from the ground up with a clear and specific purpose. To achieve the intended weight balance and mace-inspired characteristics, we chose a Friction Lock system, while introducing new technology and structural concepts that differ from our previous designs. Conventional expandable batons use the tip to retain the second-stage shaft, but the new SPINE uses a newly designed internal locking structure that allows the tip to function as a completely independent component. This made it possible to introduce a detachable QD TIP SYSTEM. By eliminating the need for a permanently protruding tip, the design provides an advantage in weapon-retention situations where an opponent attempts to grab and take control of the baton. It also minimizes the risk of the protruding tip catching or interfering with natural, continuous movement during impact. The first shaft has also been completely redesigned. Instead of a conventional round tube, the shaft features five longitudinal slot profiles. Unlike a standard round baton where a broader surface can make contact, this geometry is designed so that, depending on the angle of contact, the impact is concentrated primarily through one or two defined contact points.
