Top 20-11 of 1999 (still at 6/10's though 😅)

2️⃣0️⃣ Lake Placid (🇺🇸) Comfy killer crocodile film that spawned a gazillion of sequels and copycats.

1️⃣9️⃣The Ninth Gate (🇫🇷) Johny Depp as a rare book dealer mumbles his way across Europe in search for books that might hold the key to the gares of hell. Excellent first half, mid second half.

1️⃣8️⃣Desecration (🇺🇸) A film that has the feeling of those late lowbudget 'Fulci Presents' that aired on Italian tv in the late 80's. Severly lacking in story and directing but the overall "mood" and some of the setpieces are to die for.
Diamond in the rough if you ask me.

1️⃣7️⃣Celluloid Nightmares (🇯🇵) Found footage film about a reporter investigating the disappearance of a known pornstar. Seedy seedy film with a lot of disturbing footage and an even more disturbing twist.

1️⃣6️⃣Deep Blue Sea (🇦🇺) The 'Jaws' for Gen-Y. Didnt age too well but still a classic in my book.

1️⃣5️⃣The Nameless (🇪🇸) What starts off as a lesser Spanish 'Se7en' then surprises by throwing occult sects, found footage and mutilated babies at us. As any movie should.

1️⃣4️⃣End Of Days (🇺🇸) Satan trying to bring forth a new dawn against all odds.
All odds being Arnold Schwarznegger who for some reason makes a smoothie out of pizza, chinese food, coffee and painkillers in one scene. Absolute mad-lad 😅

1️⃣3️⃣Virus (🇺🇸) Underrated mixture of Alien and Leviathan from that strange era when Jamie Lee Curtis transitioned from global sex symbol to looking like a male gymteacher in his 40's

1️⃣2️⃣In Dreams (🇬🇧) A woman with slight "dream powers" learn to telepathicly communicate with the serial killer that abducted her daughter. Robert Downey Jr also lives up to his last name as he goes "full retard".

1️⃣1️⃣Stir Of Echoes (🇺🇸) A tired Kevin Bacon starts to see ghosts after a friend hypnotizes him. Privaty ditectivy stuff ensues

Top 30-21 (all these are about 6/10's)

3️⃣0️⃣Japanese Hell (🇯🇵): An absolutely insane depiction of hell through a weird theater-anthology framework. Made by then 74yo Teruo Ishii. Weakest on the list but deserves respect.

2️⃣9️⃣Bats (🇺🇸): Bat shit crazy (pun intended) film about killer bats terrorizing a rural town.
Has that nice "SyFy Original before they became trash" feeling going on.

2️⃣8️⃣Terror Firmer (🇺🇸): Troma neoslasher filled with dumb tranny-jokes, a bit of racism some of the goriest kills of 1999.

2️⃣7️⃣Wishmaster 2 (🇺🇸): Second one sees the geenie going to jail and infiltrating the Russian mob. It's just as campy as it sounds but boy is it entertaining!

2️⃣6️⃣Memento Mori (🇰🇷): Second film in the 'Whispering Corridors' serie. More angsty schoolgirls and vengeful ghosts but a big step down from the first film (imo)

2️⃣5️⃣Shikoku (🇯🇵): Ghosts and exotic mysticism with rural Japan as a beautiful backdrop. Good story but the ghost is a bit to cute to take serious

2️⃣4️⃣Storm Of The Century (🇺🇸): Made for tv Stephen King thingy. Aweful cgi but some of tge best sourcematerial out there.

2️⃣3️⃣Sleepy Hollow (🇺🇸): Johnny Depp mumbling around trying to capture 'The Headless Horseman'. No fan of Tim Burton but this one's a-o-k

2️⃣2️⃣Duck! The Carbine High Massacre (🇺🇸): Who knew that making a comedy about the Columbine school-shooting just months after the incident could be so much fun.

2️⃣1️⃣Ringu 2 (🇯🇵): Has the same creepy feeling as the first film but dear lord is this a slow one.

The Top 10 out of the 118 films i watched. These are MY favourites so no bitching about what should've been there and what should'nt. Make your own damn lists.

10. Tucker And Dale vs Evil (🇨🇦) One of few horror/comedies to actually make me chuckle. Tucker and Dale has male chemistry that me and my friends could only dream about

9. The Last Exorcism (🇺🇲) Extremly smart and original twist on the whole possessed subgenre. Unfairly hated on by commoners and plebs.

8. Beyond The Black Rainbow (🇨🇦) Take the final act of '2001: A Space Odyssey' and force feed it LSD, then stretch it out for 2 hours add a serial killer and tell Carpenter to score it.

7. Red White And Blue (🇺🇲) 'Dead Mans Shoes' meets 'Blue Ruin' but with extra darkness, STD's and insane torture as a side dish.

6. Troll Hunter (🇳🇴) A found footage so well done and soaked in norse mythology that you kinda wish it was real.

5. Cold Fish (🇯🇵) Superb Sono right here from and a perfect example of what i'd like to dub as "grooming-horror". Think the org 'Speak No Evil' but with expensive fishes and volotary rape.

4. Bedevilled (🇰🇷) They lure you in with a picturesque fishing village and a drama about finding your roots. Add male violence and structural oppression and all if a sudden we're looking at decapitated heads and one of Koreas most effective revenge-films.

3. Black Swan (🇺🇲) Ballet, mental illness and cinematic fucking GOLD.

2. Dream Home (🇭🇰) I've got no clue if a woman getting killed with a vacum cleaner while giving birth is a perfect metaphor on surviving under modern capitalism and at this point i'm to afraid to ask.

1. I Saw The Devil (🇰🇷) Insanely smart script an a perfect mixture of action/thriller/horror. A solid 10/10 that gets better after every rewatch. by @horrorhoarding

20. Julias Eyes (🇪🇸) A woman going blind undergoes an operation to fix her eyesight. As she's healing she realizes that an unknown man is living in the house with her. Incredibly creepy "sense-horror". Go in blind

19. Black Death (🇬🇧) We need more swordclashing medieval horror and less slowburn folkhorror. (Spoilerwarning) Sean Bean dies

18. Insidious (🇺🇲) Modern horror classic!

17. Frozen (🇺🇲) A group of friends get caught in a skilift. Simple, realistic and effective survivalhorror.

16. Sennentuntschi: Curse Of The Alps (🇨🇭) Part investigative thiller and folkhorror/succubus story. Excellently written and with the Swiss alps as a perfect backdrop.

15. In Their Sleep (🇫🇷) Hidden gem that does something new with the tired 'home invasion' genre. Full of twists and extreme moments (typical of French horror from this era)

14. Kidnapped (🇪🇸) Among all the messed up films of this year this is probably the most gutwrenching one. Total and utter darkness and despair.

13. Revenge: A Love Story (🇭🇰) 'Se7en' but Cat-III Hongkong madness. Lots of twists and dead babies.

12. The Silent House (🇺🇾) Shot in in one single take for less than $6k yet manages to deliver more suspense than most other films. Rollercoaster horror

11. Confessions (🇯🇵) The fact that a teacher who infects his pupils with HIV is the most likable character in the whole film speaks volumes about how dark this shit goes. by @horrorhoarding

30. 7 Days (🇫🇷) Pedophile rapes a little girl to death and later falls into the hands of the victims father. With 2 daughters myself i understand and condone every second of the "torture porn" in this film.

29. High School Of The Dead (🇯🇵) The scene where a man uses a girls clevage to steady his sniper rifle might very well be the biggest moment for art since the 'Mona Lisa'. 🥹

28. The Dead (🇬🇧) Just good ol' zombies. Nobody's infected and running around screaming. No occult Germans or spacebacteria involved. Just good ol' Romero zombies. Wholesome!

27. We Are What We Are (🇲🇽) Bleak Mexican cannibal drama.

26. The Shrine (🇨🇦) Demonic cult film with heaps of gore and a creepy atmosphere.

25. Hatchet 2 (🇺🇲) One of few modern slasher franchises worth it's salt. Victor Crowley is fuckin terrifying no matter how much missplaced comedy Adam Green tries to insert.

24. Blood Pigs (🇺🇲) A zero-budget homemade SOV turned out to be the biggest surprise of the year. 30mins in and i almost turned it off but in the second act hides some of the greatest gore i've ever seen. Absolutely batshit and dare i say beautiful.

23. A Serbian Film (🇷🇸) It's edgy and extreme but in no way as evil as people with their panties in a bunch will claim it is. Calm down. Breath. It's only fiction (pretty damn good at that)

22. Piranha 3D (🇺🇲) Now THAT'S how you do a remake!

21. The Reef (🇦🇺) A 44yo grown man almost pissing himself during the open water scenes (🙋‍♂️). This is true horror for me. by @horrorhoarding

40. Rammbock: Berlin Undead (🇩🇪) Original zombiefilm trading gore for everyday realism. Post-DDR vibes

39. Blackaria (🇫🇷) Modern French giallo. The madmen tried to do 'A Lizard In A Womans Skin' with pizza-money. Budgetary restraints are obvious but what it does have is style and a big heart.

38. Saint (🇳🇱) Think 'The Fog' but directed by the same guy that gave us 'Amsterdamned'.

37. The Possession Of David O'Reilly (🇬🇧) Psychological thingy following the old formula of "is protagonist mad or does he/she actually see monsters". Pretty basic but somehow it got under my skin.

36. No Reason (🇩🇪) I know extreme is not equivalent to good but watching a nude junkie go berseker with an axe gets a thumbs up from me. Ittenbach🤎

35. Paranormal Activity 2 (🇺🇲) More of the same but with one of 2010's greatest jumpscares.

34. Dark Souls (🇳🇴) Norwegian weirdness that starts off as a police thriller then goes into grief stricken art-horror just to flip it all around and dwelve into 80's b-movie territory (think Hell Of The Living Dead). Hidden gem!

33. Stake Land (🇺🇲) Vampire apocalypse done right. Incredible world building.

32. Cherry Tree Lane (🇬🇧) Dirty and realistic home invasion.

31. Devil (🇺🇲) I know this is lower tier achlop but i aways had a thing for this one. Best Shyamalan film not directed by Shyamalan. by @horrorhoarding

50. Mutant Girls Squad (🇯🇵) The fact that the girl using her prolapsed anus to swing a chainsword isnt the craziest scene in the film speaks volumes of its madness.

49. Yellowbrickroad (🇺🇲) Some scientists investigate why a whole town disappeard in the 40's. Like a mixture of 'Blair Witch Project' and 'The Twelve Months Of The Summer'.

48. Rare exports (🇫🇮) Wholesome "evil santa" film with a surprising amount of old man dicks on screen.

47. Cold Prey 3 (🇳🇴) The origin-story to the only great slasher franchise to come out of Scandinavia.

46. Caged (🇫🇷) A lesser and later "French Extreme" about a nurse backpacking through Albania and NOT expecting her organs to be harvested.

45. Outcast (🇮🇪) Decent little modern take on the werewolf myth. Aweful monsterdesign but with the great Kate Dickie elevating the whole ordeal with her uncanny presence.

44. Bereavement (🇺🇲) A sequel better than it's predecessor and having Alexandra Daddario running around in a white tanktop throughout doesnt really diminish the grade (😲)

43. The pack aka La Meute (🇫🇷) French "Supernatural Texas Chainsaw" with awesome monsterdesign.

42. I Spit On Your Grave (🇺🇲) Uncomfortable and controversial with a strange male gaze (🤨) that the superior original didnt have. Either way, third best remake of 2010.

41. Dont Be Afraid Of The Dark (🇦🇺) Dark, gothic and some serious acting chops from then 10yo Bailee Madisson. Second best remake of 2010.

56-51 (aka almost didnt make it bunch)

56. The Wolfman (🇺🇲) Classic werewolf feature but with gazillions of Hollywood dollars thrown at it. Hopkins tries to stay alive, Del Toro tries to stay sexy. You know the drill... bubble gum horror.

55. Let Me In (🇺🇲) Wouldnt it be cheaper to just add subtitles to foreign films? It's a great film but gets severly mogged by the Swedish film from 2008

54. Blood Junkie (🇺🇲) $6K retro-slasher. Great charm, even great soundtrack!

53. Bitter Feast (🇺🇲) Chef starts cooking his food critics. Cannibalism and hillarity ensues.

52. The Crazies (🇺🇲) Farming community drinks shitty water and becomes shitty neighbors. One of the few good remakes from 2010.

51. Two Eyes Staring (🇳🇱) Dutch family, new house, ghost kids, weird twists. Forgettable but solid 3/5

📦Some Shudder stuff from Rarewaves.
Probably my last order from them as well since Sweden now started charging handlingfees for all imports. Rarewaves sends out most purchases in single jiffybags which means every film now costs 50kr extra (about £5). These cost me about 650kr but i ended paying 1000kr all-in-all after custom-fees and taxes. Not worth it anymore.
