After about a year of planning and work, the Solar-powered Hollygrove Community Fridge is open!

It began with help from Xavier students @nsls_xula to set the foundation. The original design called for three 200 watt solar panels, but after testing I realized it was not enough to power the fridge. I then extended the roofline and added three more panels for a total of 1200 watts. The all-in-one solar charge controller is a Growatt 3kW SPF 3000TL LVM-48P and the battery is a EG4 LifePower4 Lithium Battery 48V 100AH. Thanks to @sr.parse and @son.flux for the build help and to @nolacommunityfridges and @pxp_nola for facilitating this project. by @horse.studios

Digging up old footings. Looking at the previous post of the house that used to be on the property, I guessed where the concrete footings were buried and started digging. I found about 15 of these buried about 2ft down. We broke them up with the jackhammer and threw the concrete in the dumpster. by @horse.studios

Digging up concrete led me to looking up the history of the lot. On street view in Google maps you can sometimes go back in time and see a place in different years. The photos here show 2007, 2011, 2013, 2013, 2016, 2018.

By looking at the photos, there was a house on the lot in 2011, and it was demolished by 2013. I'm using these photos to find where more concrete may be hidden in the ground. by @horse.studios
