Today was an amazing day! ✨ Horse Plus Humane Society’s President, Tawnee Preisner, and actress Dawn Oliveri were invited onto Fox News to educate the public about what is actually happening to horses and the reality of the horse slaughter pipeline. 🐴📺
While less than one percent of the horse population is exported for slaughter, the horses trapped in this pipeline are often exploited by cartels to smuggle drugs and humans across the United States as they are moved from auction to auction. 💔

🚨 HORSES ARE BEING USED AS COVER FOR TRANSNATIONAL CRIME🚨

🎥 Watch this video.

When we first started rescuing horses from the slaughter pipeline, we believed we understood what we were fighting-horses bought by kill buyers and shipped to Mexico and Canada under horrific conditions to be brutally slaughtered for human consumption!

👉But the deeper we looked, the more questions we had.

Another reality started unfolding around the horse transportation network — involving drugs, human smuggling, cartel money laundering and serious biosecurity concerns.

⚠️Federal authorities have uncovered :

➡️ 32 people hidden inside a compartment of a horse trailer carrying four horses at a Texas Border Patrol checkpoint.

➡️ Methamphetamine transported in horse trailers in a federal drug investigation.

➡️ 350 pounds of cocaine transported in a horse trailer carrying six horses in Oklahoma.

➡️ Hundreds of pounds of marijuana concealed in a horse trailer carrying racehorses.

➡️ Millions of dollars in cartel drug proceeds laundered through American Quarter Horse purchases, breeding & racing.

Horse Plus Humane Society’s investigation has uncovered what’s believed to be evidence of drug & human and criminal activity connected to slaughter-bound horse networks.

BIOSECURITY:
Horse Plus has reported two dozen slaughter-bound horses tested positive for diphtheria .This is only transferred from long exposure with sick humans!

Investigators have also reported horses arriving with disturbing tracheotomy wounds large unexplained surgical scars that raise questions about what these animals may have endured or been exposed to.

👉When you combine this with documented cases of human smuggling, narcotics trafficking, cartel money laundering and disease concerns involving horse transportation, one thing is clear:

⚠️THIS PIPELINE DESERVES IMMEDIATE FEDERAL INVESTIGATION

✅ We are asking the president to sign an executive order immediately ending the horse-slaughter pipeline and addressing the risks it poses to Americans and our horses.

🚨 ALERT: USDA — WHY WERE HORSES REMOVED FROM YOUR PRESS RELEASE? 🚨

Yesterday we celebrated what appeared to be an incredibly important development for America’s horses.

USDA’s September 21 press release, “USDA Announces Actions Marking New Era of Companion Animal Welfare,” originally stated:

➡️ “…taking new steps to strengthen dog, HORSE and fellow companion animal welfare…”

It also announced that USDA’s newly formed Animal Protection Bureau would play a pivotal role supporting:

➡️ “the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) AND Horse Protection Act (HPA) programs.”

We have the screenshots.( *scroll left ⬅️⬅️ to see them)

We have the original USDA-hosted version. ( *see video in 2nd slide)

But today, that SAME press release has been edited.

❌ “HORSE” has been removed.

The current version now reads:

➡️ “…strengthen dog and fellow companion animal welfare…”

And the explicit reference to the Horse Protection Act has also been removed.

The current paragraph now refers only to the “Animal Welfare Act”.

🆘In fact, there is now NO reference to “horse” anywhere in the live USDA press release.

So our question to @USDA is simple:

WHY?

Why was a federal press release changed AFTER publication to specifically remove horses!

Why was the reference to the “Horse Protection Act” removed from the description of the newly created Animal Protection Bureau?

This wreaks corruption!

🚨The American public deserves and DEMANDS an explanation IMMEDIATELY🚨

This isn’t about Republican vs. Democrat.

This is about transparency, accountability and America’s horses.

❌You cannot publicly include horses in a major federal animal-welfare announcement one day, quietly remove them from the published language afterward, and expect horse advocates not to ask what happened.

🚨 BREAKING — MEXICO RE-OPENS BORDERS TO HORSES 🚨

Mexico is now accepting U.S. horses for “reproduction, sport, exhibition, work and transit” under new New World screwworm biosecurity requirements.

⚠️BUT HORSES INTENDED FOR SLAUGHTER REMAIN PROHIBITED FROM EXPORT TO MEXICO FROM ALL U.S. STATES⚠️

🚨This means HEIGHTENED VIGILANCE is critical.🚨

👉With legitimate horse traffic moving across the border again, authorities must be able to identify and investigate suspected slaughter-bound shipments.

👆👆LOOK AT THIS DIAGRAM.

Potential warning signs may include:
🔴 Large groups of horses loose in stock trailers
🔴 No halters
🔴 Auction stickers still attached
🔴 Injured or distressed horses
🔴 Welfare concerns during transport

But identification shouldn’t stop there:

The slaughter pipeline cannot be allowed to hide behind a different declared purpose or a different trailer.

This is the time for MORE vigilance, MORE enforcement and continued attention in Washington.

🚨 THE CONVERSATION AROUND AMERICA’S HORSE SLAUGHTER PIPELINE IS GROWING.🚨

👉Animal Wellness Action reports that six additional House Republicans have asked President Trump to make the current restriction on exporting American horses to Mexico for slaughter permanent. They join an earlier effort led by Rep. Vern Buchanan and signed by 17 House Republicans.

At Horses In Our Hands, we believe this issue goes beyond animal welfare.

Tens of thousands of American horses have historically been transported long distances to slaughter in Mexico and Canada. The June congressional letter cited roughly 20,000 horses sent across the southern border for slaughter last year.

Now, New World screwworm has brought biosecurity into sharper focus. USDA states that Mexico is prohibiting equine exports from every U.S. state, including horses intended for slaughter, because of screwworm detections. Disease does not recognize borders.

Border security also deserves serious examination. Federal records document separate cases involving horse trailers used to conceal migrants and methamphetamine. These cases highlight that the horse-slaughter pipeline is being exploited by criminal networks.

⚠️That raises important questions for DHS, CBP, USDA and law enforcement⚠️

❓Who is moving these horse❓Where are they coming fro❓Where are they going❓What is inside the trailers❓Are animals, transporters and cross-border movements being tracked and inspected effectively❓

For years, animal-welfare investigators have documented Bruce Rotz and Rotz’s Livestock sending horses through the slaughter pipeline. Animals’ Angels has investigated this operation since 2009 — following trucks, documenting shipments and gathering evidence.

On September 2, New York State Police stopped a truck in St. Lawrence County carrying 25 horses tagged for slaughter in Canada. The driver was arrested and charged under New York’s horse-slaughter law. The investigation itself focused on Rotz’s Livestock, owned by Bruce Rotz.

But accountability cannot stop with the person behind the wheel.

A law means nothing if those who allegedly own, arrange, direct or knowingly facilitate an illegal shipment escape scrutiny.

This case can set a precedent.

New York must send a clear message: if the evidence shows you knowingly sent horses through this state to slaughter, you will face the full force of the law.

The 25 horses intercepted on their way to slaughter are safe today — but what happens next could determine their fate.
The driver of the truck has been charged. Bruce Rotz, doing business as Rotz Livestock and identified in documents associated with the shipment as the horses’ owner/shipper, has not been charged.
Now we need to make sure the full story is investigated.

A monumental victory was just achieved for horse welfare: a driver illegally hauling horses through New York bound for slaughter has been arrested and charged! After a FOIA request uncovered undeniable proof that horses were being exported through NY ports in direct violation of state law, Animal Angels took swift, decisive action to stop these kill buyers in their tracks. The arrest targeted the operation of notorious kill-buyer Bruce Rotz, delivering a major blow to the slaughter pipeline.
While this arrest is a massive win, it exposes the deep corruption within the community. Disturbingly, fake “rescues” are actively working with kill buyers to run a highly profitable extortion scheme. They capture heartbreaking footage inside restricted auction pens, post fake “ship dates,” and demand thousands in “bail” money to save a horse. Donors pay these inflated ransoms believing they saved an animal, but the money goes directly to kill buyers, while the horses are often recycled back into the slaughter system.
A recent Animals’ Angels investigation exposed this exact deception. An online campaign claimed that raising $50,000 for Bruce Rotz would keep his pens empty and halt slaughter shipments for two months. Well-meaning supporters quickly funded the goal, but official USDA health certificates proved Rotz took the money and still shipped over 80 horses to Canadian slaughterhouses just weeks later.
Paying kill pen “bail” only funds extortion and fuels the slaughter trade. To truly save lives, refuse to pay ransom fees for horses sitting in kill pens. Instead, direct your donations to legitimate rescues that show up at auctions to legally outbid these abusers, cutting them out of the profit loop entirely. Always verify an organization’s practices before donating to ensure your support isn’t funding the very cruelty you are fighting to stop. by @horsehumane

From completely untouched wild horses to domestic equines needing behavioral rehab, your expertise will help give them a second chance at an amazing life. 🩵

What You’ll Do

Train and rehabilitate a highly diverse rescue herd, including wild horses, unstarted domestics, and restarts.

Focus on groundwork, halter training, and under-saddle work to prepare horses for successful adoption.

Assess temperaments and provide shelter staff with progress updates.

Work comfortably year-round using our excellent indoor and outdoor round pens.

What We’re Looking For

100% Humane Methods: We have a zero-tolerance policy for harsh, abusive, or coercive tactics. Patience, trust-building, and clear communication are mandatory.

Proven, verifiable professional training experience (Mustang experience is a huge plus!).

Ability to safely handle unpredictable animals and expertly read equine body language.
