temporary 🤍

Everything in life is temporary. I’ve learned that. I like to remind myself of that every now and again. It’s reminds me to stay present in every moment. To enjoy the good but also remember the bad will pass. I’ve been trying to be present in every class I take and allow myself to dance for me. It’s been challenging, but something about this class makes it so easy and one thing I wish wasn’t temporary.

Elodie, thank you for creating a space that feels safe, freeing, enjoyable and so supportive. Always grateful to learn from you and dance with you across multiple styles.

Life is better with a concert on the calendar🎤

Sugarland was my first concert at the age of 8. A core memory - just me, mom and dad at a concert of their favorite band. Exactly 15 years later, I find myself back at a Sugarland concert. Physically this time around we were missing one important human but he was there singing along to every word from above, I’m sure of it. Music is so unique in that way. Guides people through life, holds many memories, and brings people together, even those that aren’t with us anymore. This night was bittersweet, but worth it in every way.

@sugarland - thank you for creating music that will never age and is so special 🤍 taken in Charleston, South Carolina by @horwitzds

10 years ago our world was turned upside down. Mom said, “he didn’t make it” and my heart shattered into a million pieces.
I lost one of the most important and special people a girl could ever know in her lifetime.

The last ten years have been a rollercoaster. So many days of tears and heartache but also so many of smiles and laughter. So many days of longing for your advice, to see your smile, to hear your voice, to be wrapped so tightly in your arms. So many days of just wanting to feel whole again. But no matter what a day might hold, I still think about him each and every day. He is still a part of me in so many beautiful ways: a memory, a scent, a butterfly, a penny.

I think of him and how his influence still continues to guide me through this life. How his love for us didn’t end when he left. How his memories and legacy will shine through each of us for the rest of our lives. How we will keep him in our hearts and he’ll stay there forever.

Sometimes I talk to him in my mind, hoping somehow my words reach him through the sky. Hoping that even though he’s not here with me, he’s still guiding me through life. Hoping that he knows I’ll always be his little girl.

There will forever be days when missing him feels so unbearable but those moments of grief remind me how much he means to me. Even ten years later, I’m still learning to live without him because wow it’s not easy and doesn’t get easier. But I hope he’s proud of the women I’ve become and all I’ve accomplished. I hope he knows his memory will never fade and I’ll hold onto his love forever.

Daddy, I love you beyond words and miss you beyond measure.

Today is one of those days where I wish I could just reach out into heaven and bring you back forever. I’d love to wrap my arms around you and never let go. The world feels quieter without you, but your love still echoes in everything I do. Thinking of you extra today but you’re always on my mind. Happy birthday daddy! I miss you!

The amount of gratitude I have for this program is indescribable.

I came in four months ago feeling unsure of myself, very little self esteem and confidence, and a little intimidated by the big city. But gosh has all that completely changed. ProSem not only made me a better dancer, but allowed me to change my perspective on who I am as a person inside and outside the studio. I was pushed to limits I didn’t even know I had and then pushed past those even further. I’ve been pushed to get out of my head and just be me no matter how many mistakes are made because it’s all part of learning. I’ve learned to let the negativity go because it’s not worth holding onto when there’s so much light and want for success for others around you. I have been given such a gift of community and positive support to be surrounded by and now have for life.

Most importantly I’ve learned to be proud of myself. Proud of my growth and determination. Proud of the dancer I’ve become and am continuing to become. Proud of the confidence I’ve allowed myself to build. Proud of taking a chance on myself because deep down I knew I needed this. You glow differently when your confidence is fueled by belief in yourself.

There’s still so much growing to do and more confidence to gain, but I’m ready for what’s next with intention, with love, and with light.

@bdcprograms and @bdcnyc, thank you for everything. Thank you for giving me the space to fall in love with dance again. Thank you to the faculty and my ProSem family for an unforgettable and inspiring four months. This opportunity truly turned my life around and is now just the start of what could be the best chapter of my life 🤍 by @horwitzds

Charleston, I love you

This city truly changed my life. Yes it had its ups and downs, but ultimately it gave me friends that became family, unforgettable experiences and opportunities, and it healed so much of my heart. It honestly gave me something that made saying goodbye so difficult. Grateful is an absolute understatement for how I feel. Leaving is not something I’d ever thought I’d do, but because of all this city gave me I am able to go on and live my dreams. NYC here I come, but Charleston don’t worry, I’ll be back because you’ll always be home 🤍 taken in Charleston, South Carolina by @horwitzds
