Running a hostel shouldn’t feel this hard.

But for most hostel owners and managers, it does.

You end up being the one holding everything together…
fixing problems, answering questions, jumping into shifts, making every decision.

And the hostel works… but only because you’re there all the time.

That’s not sustainable.

Over the years, I’ve seen the same patterns again and again across different hostels.

What works. What breaks. What keeps owners & managers stuck.

That’s why I've created The Hostel Mastery.

A practical way to bring more clarity into your operations, build stronger systems, and create a hostel that runs without depending on one person.

Built for hostel operators who want things to feel… simpler.

If you want to explore it;

Work hard, then go out and live it 🇦🇱

This was Hostel Connect in Shkodër, Albania: a hostel industry meetup where hostel owners and managers spend the day working on their hostels together, and the evenings exploring the city like travellers, with a local host who knows where to go.

Workshops by day. Long dinners, late nights and new friends by night. That mix is the point: the best ideas come once people feel like they know each other.

Huge thanks to @thegalleyhostel for hosting us in Shkodër.

One shared table builds more hostel culture than any planned event.

Breakfast. Coffee. A late night beer with strangers who feel like old friends by the time they leave. That's where real hostel culture happens.

Kash, @budgettraveller has stayed in hundreds of hostels over 17 years of blogging about them. His take: put a table where people naturally gather, and the rest takes care of itself.

Small setup choices go further than a bigger budget. As @goodmorninghostel has proven with their intentional layout; a table people where people all face each other and invites interaction can do more for your guest experience than a full events calendar.

What's the spot in your hostel where guests always end up? Tell us below.

More hostel management tips and real operator conversations every week. Follow along.

🤔 What would you name a hostel for women only? 👇 by @hostellifehub

The AI obligations and fines have our hostel managers and owners closing the tab in a panic. So we read the rules, the dull source documents and all, and wrote the calm version for you.

The short truth: if you use AI to draft your emails, tidy a caption, or fix the light on a real photo, you've got nothing to disclose. The inspectors are going after deception, like inventing a karaoke night that never happened, not you using AI to ease your work.

What's actually required is small. Understand AI use with your team. Keep guest and staff personal details out of AI tools. Be able to show what you did. That's the core of it.

We wrote the full breakdown and built the resources so you don't have to: a 15-minute staff training, a one-page agreement, and ironically we even include an AI prompt that helps you understand any further obligations based on YOUR setup. It’s free to read on HostelLife Hub.

No lawyers. No expensive course. Just the calm version, done!

Comment “AI" and we'll send you the link for the full easy breakdown! by @hostellifehub

She wasn't planning to open a hostel.

Meet Margo 👋

Ten years in hospitality, a few apartments in Prague, and she was just searching for a new space to expand. Then she found a building where the rooms were too big and too beautiful to turn into flats. So she asked herself something she'd never thought about before. What if I make a hostel?

Three years later it's now “women's only”, and you can feel how much thought went into every corner. Eight kinds of tea at breakfast. Plants everywhere you look and even a special "kissing wall”.

Margo still does check-ins herself and in her words...
“THIS IS MY BABY” 👶

Who else here knows that feeling? 👇 by @hostellifehub

What makes a women's only hostel feel like home? Ask the women who run it.

Margo built something rare in Prague. A hostel run by women, for women. In this one her team and guests show you what that actually feels like. The safety you stop having to think about. The friendships that start over breakfast. The kind of place solo female travelers keep coming back to.

Some hostels have a vibe but not all have a community.

Tag a woman who'd feel right at home here.
