Hostelz started with one very simple idea: compare hostel prices so backpackers don’t have to check the same bed across multiple booking sites.

That’s still at the core of what we do.

But somewhere along the way, we kept thinking:
“Why doesn’t a tool for this exist?”
So we started building them.
Solo travel itineraries.

And plenty more we’re still working on.

Some are things we wished we had while traveling. Others exist because you asked us to build them.

🐉 Wat Samphran sits about 40km west of Bangkok, a tall pink tower with a giant dragon wrapped all the way around the outside. You can climb up inside the dragon's body. It looks like something out of a video game, it is barely on the tourist trail, and it is an easy half day trip from a city everyone already visits.

🍺 In Sisaket, out in the northeast, there is a temple built from over 1.5 million empty beer bottles. Green Heineken and brown Chang bottles make up the walls, and when the sun hits them the whole inside glows green. It is a real working temple, not a joke, and the monks have kept adding buildings to it for decades.

⛰️ Wat Pha Sorn Kaew sits on a mountain in Phetchabun, covered head to toe in millions of tiny coloured mosaic tiles, with white Buddhas gazing out over a sea of mist and forest. There is no direct bus, so you take one to Khao Kho and grab local transport, and that small hassle is exactly why it stays quiet.

🏔️ In Lampang, climb to the floating pagodas of Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat. Small white chedis sit perched on top of separate sharp rock pinnacles along a mountain ridge, reached by a steep hike. It looks impossible and slightly unreal, and almost no foreign tourist makes the climb, so you often get the ridge to yourself.

🎨 Wat Phumin in Nan is plain outside and stunning inside. Its walls hold famous old murals of everyday Lanna life, including the "whispering man" painting you will recognise from postcards. Nan is far north and quiet, so you study these paintings up close without a crowd pushing past you. by @hostelz

🌋 Go inside a volcano at Thrihnukagigur. This is the only place on the whole planet where you drop into a volcano's actual magma chamber. You ride an open lift about 120 metres down into a space so big it could hold the Statue of Liberty, with the walls streaked in mineral colours from an eruption 4,000 years ago. It only runs in summer, it is not cheap, and almost no tourist knows it is there.

🏊 Snorkel between two continents at Silfra. In Thingvellir, right on the Golden Circle everyone already drives, there is a flooded crack where the North American and European plates pull apart. You float through glacial meltwater so clear you can see over 100 metres, in near silence, with a hand on each continent. It is freezing, you wear a drysuit, and it is worth every shiver.
