Hot Docs Wishes Managing Director a Fond Farewell

After nearly 11 years of exceptional leadership and service, managing director Heidi Tao Yang will be departing Hot Docs to pursue her next professional chapter.

Heidi has been an integral member of the organization throughout some of its most consequential periods in the organization’s history.

We are deeply appreciative of all Heidi has contributed over nearly a decade of dedicated service. Her contributions to Hot Docs' turnaround and stabilization will have a lasting impact on the organization. We wish her every success in what comes next.

Hot Docs Bolsters Executive Leadership Team to Champion the Future of Canadian Documentary

Hot Docs is pleased to announce that Diana Sanchez has been elevated to President of Hot Docs, effective immediately. Alongside Hot Docs’ Board of Directors, Sanchez has restructured the executive leadership team to better accomplish the organization’s long-term strategic goals and growth.

Accordingly, Sanchez has appointed Mara Gourd-Mercado (currently at CPH:DOX) to Executive Director of Hot Docs.

In her new role as President, Sanchez will concentrate on the organization's strategic direction—artistic oversight, government relations, business development, and major financial partnerships—while safeguarding Hot Docs' long-term health and stability. Gourd-Mercado will lead day-to-day operations and fiscal management of the organization and the festival, including festival and industry fundraising, with an additional focus on industry programming, a revitalized Hot Docs Forum, and ties with the Francophone doc community in Canada and abroad.

Additionally, Julie Bristow (Catalyst) and Aaron Zeghers (The Infinite Image), have been named Board of Directors Chair and Vice Chair, respectively.

Hot Docs is honoured to once again provide much needed financial support to upcoming Canadian documentaries as part of the prestigious Hot Docs-Slaight Family Fund, with five music-related projects announced today as recipients of a total of $121,000 in production stage funding.

The Fund champions filmmakers committed to crafting compelling, high-quality stories that celebrate music in all its forms, while showcasing the profound impact of Canadian music on the global stage.
