It was between me and the lizard. Used a cheat code. He’s playable now. Still picked me.

Finally getting some air after a mad month of touring with @cactuscactusband and @crystalmrr so I wanted to give a little shout to the little beast I had with me all tour, the @arturia_official Astrolab 👽

The 37 key variant was such a godsent for soooo many reasons that I’ll share in a later video. But for now, the fact that its a way more portable version of my busted up MS20 (iykyk), while also doing a zillion more sounds like the farfisa, rhodes, moog and the mellotron, its definitely given my 12-string a run for its money when it comes to putting the psych in Cactus Cactus’ sound 🍄

I’ve also not had any trouble replicating the various off-kilter sounds of Crystal Murray’s sonically-dynamic songs with this synth, so hats off to this little mf for that

I will also acknowledge that I’ve barely touched this synth’s iceberg on this post, so look out for a follow up video where I dive into how it’s has saved me from so much tour woes, amongst other things.

In the meantime, enjoy these shots where the synth has given me a chance to farm some aura 🚬😎

DOCTOR’S ORDERS: SOUND DESIGN 101 💉 FREE WORKSHOP NEXT MONDAY, 29 JUNE AT @sweeleemusic Clarke Quay 🎹

Do you ever find yourself looking lost like Mildy (guy on the left) cos you weren’t sure on how electronic sounds are actually made? No? Well here I am regardless, offering you a chance to sleep well again. Here’s your prescription details 💊🥰🤤

This workshop is a hands-on introduction to synthesis featuring the @arturia_official MiniFreak, which we’ll be using to explore the building blocks of sound. By the end of the evening, you’ll be looking like Mildy (this time, on the right) having developed your own sonic expression. You’ll be able to create everything from basses and pads to strange textures and happy accidents.

The goal isn’t to memorise technical terms. it’s to get comfortable experimenting, listening, and shaping sounds for yourself. There’s no judgement here, only inclusivity. So I assure you, no experience is needed.

HOWEVER, you should bring a laptop with the MiniFreak V software installed. Existing and new registrants to this event will receive a complimentary MiniFreak V license through the Eventbrite link in my bio

So get your dose of sound design now cos spaces are limited!

3 music acts take us to the end with 𝐸𝓍𝒸𝑒𝓈𝓈 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝑅𝑒𝓉𝓊𝓇𝓃, closing @sifa_sg on 30 May.

𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗴 explores the aesthetics of the zany through the limitations of legacy hardware. Utilizing the Roland JV-1080 synthesiser, his work ‘MILD NOURISHMENT’ is amplified by immersive PS1-style animations that bleed off the screen. The stage becomes a glowing, low-poly dreamscape—a sonic chronicle of personal friction set within an expanded virtual world.
