This Saturday we hosted our Mopane In Weekend, where our boys shared dinner on the roof before commencing with AGM (an informal annual general meeting) and BrainBully, which are internal culture events where each corridor competes in all types of challenges with one another such as arm wrestling, quiz night, moot court, funny Mopane compilation videos, racing and much more!

Mopane partook in the annual Kaskar “push car” race hosted by @unioord , finishing 1st place in the men’s residence category! It was an overall successful night out for the gents.

Congratulations as well to the lovely ladies at @madelief_1977 who also placed 1st in the women’s category!

Once again, congratulations to the boys for their excellent performance at the @stuku_at_tuks Sing It Acapella, placing 2nd place overall and 1st place as a TuksRes structure. Their hard work has paid off, receiving a plethora of awards including:

MopsArchives 🎞️🌽

We recently hosted @stuku_at_tuks for our Archive showcase where we gave them an insider look into the rich history of our prestigious res. They got to see the development of Mopane throughout the years, the various traditions that have formed the foundation of this res as well as some traditions we have left behind.

We also put together a wonderful short play about the history of the house and the judges got a chance to use the kettie which forms part of an old house tradition which we no longer practice.

We hope you enjoyed your visit @stuku_at_tuks and we can’t wait to see you again next year!

MopsCulture 🎤🌽

Last night our boys participated in the 2026 rendition of Sing It Acapella. Through tireless months of practice and dedication Mopane came 2nd place overall! This is in no way possible without our hardworking culture comm, the support of the house, and of course the tenacious effort of the Acapella performers who have once again showed what the Mopane standard looks like!

MopsRag 🪡🌽

Over the weekend Mopane went on to visit the PEN Homelessness Program for RAG Outreach. The boys got a chance to speak to men from various backgrounds and connect over some boerewors and fun board games. This provided the house with an opportunity to understand that we may all come from different walks of life but we’re all still human and are all deserving of care and support.

Mandela Week 2026 was a massive success.
