Sometimes, as moms, we’re our own worst critic. I sat in the doctor today, hearing my baby get diagnosed with RSV for the second time in her little 7 months. I felt awful. Guilty. Is it something I’m doing wrong? Isn’t breastmilk supposed to be packed full of immune boosting antibodies? Is it because I’m a lazy mom? I said for 9 months I’d be home making her baby purées with the most wholesome recipes on Pinterest, only to find myself buying jarred food from Wal-Mart. Do I take her out too much? Staying home for basically 4 months straight had me crazy. When she got a little older and the weather a little warmer, I was stir crazy. We’ve been out almost every weekend since. Did I not take her out enough? Maybe those 4 months of being a hermit caused her to miss out on some important exposure for her immune system. Who did I let hold her? Is it something I’m not eating? A vitamin I don’t take? A vitamin she doesn’t take? The enemy was in my head and making me question my ability to be the mom of this tiny human. Then I realized how silly that was. This little girl has a cold. A viral infection. Something we all get. Something commonplace that is almost impossible to avoid for some people no matter how many essential oils you use and how many supplements you take. And I’ve already gotten one kid to almost 11 years old. I can’t do it again. 😏 I’m not the perfect mom. My house is rarely spotless, I can’t afford to buy all organic food, and as many natural products as I try to use, there’s always some blogger somewhere saying what I buy isn’t “clean” enough and what they’re pushing is the only “safe” thing to use, and another saying everything I use is bunk and I should just stick to the classics - bleach and ammonia. When does it end? I honestly don’t know. I’d love to say I’m done and I’ll never compare myself to another Instagram mommy ever again, but I’m only human and I know myself. What I can say is that we’re all doing fine, mamas. We are all doing the best we can. And if anyone out there has ever compared herself to me, just know, what we post on social media is rarely the whole picture. I’m falling apart most days too. ✌🏻

Take the pictures. You never know when a moment in time is going to be outgrown. I haven’t nursed Olivia in days. We were down to just at bedtime, and she hasn’t asked in a while. Opal hasn’t nursed in a week. She was down to naps and bedtime, but she now just rolls over and falls asleep without needing my help. I am so thankful for all the pictures I have to remember these last three years. I honestly thought Olivia was going to be breastfeeding at least another year, but they let you know when they’re ready. All this said, if she’s asks tomorrow night, I won’t refuse her, but I do think this time in our relationship is coming to an end. I never expected Opal to wean so early either, but she has always been my independent baby who is full of surprises. Photos 3-6 were recently taken one night when I thought to myself “this may be one of the last times I nurse my babies,” and I latched them both outside of our usual times so I could snap some quick photos. Olivia nursed once after that. Opal has not. This is a really bittersweet time and I’m expecting some rough hormonal shifts the next weeks and months. It’s really true what they say, “the years are short, but the days are long.” ❤️

I cannot believe it’s been 18 years since my first baby was laid on my chest. 18 years of seeing what a kind, talented, creative, silly, adventurous, funny, and smart young adult you have become. How is it even possible? I still see you as the little 2 year old waking me up in the morning asking for “SAN-WICH AND CHIIIIIIPS!” or the one asking for me to “tickle foot!” until you fell asleep.
