We are so ecstatic to announce are Wooden Poppy Trivets are LIVE on our website! Another incredible partnership with @cardiganleatherworks . These trivets were designed to not only be functional, but also to be works of art. They can hang on the wall as a one-of-a-kind piece of art when not in use. These trivets are also multifunctional, if you have a smaller vessel you can move the leather petals towards the inside of the flower, or if you have a larger pot or pan the leather can be placed on the outer rim of the flower in bloom. The trivets are flexible as well and are able to be become rectangular in shape to accommodate a rectangular shaped vessel. taken in Sacramento, California by @houseofquail

November’s First Thursdays is going to be a good one! 💫

So excited to welcome Christina Hultberg, founder and lead woodworker of @houseofquail, for this very special event.

We’re doing something a little different! Join us from 5–6:30 PM for our usual gathering, followed by a special board-making workshop with House of Quail!

With a background in architecture and over 20 years of design experience, Christina creates beautifully handcrafted cutting boards and kitchen pieces that bring art and function together. Her love of fine cuisine and thoughtful craftsmanship is rooted in something I love just as much: bringing people together around the table.

Spots for the workshop are first come, first serve, and they’re already going! Want to join us? Comment below and I’ll message you the link to snag your seat! 🤎

Thursday, November 5

🔥 A little fire. A little history. A whole lot of woodgrain.

Shou Sugi Ban is an ancient Japanese technique traditionally used to preserve and protect wood siding. By carefully applying fire to the surface of the wood, the outer fibers are charred, creating a natural layer of protection against moisture, insects, and the elements.

For us, it’s also a beautiful way to transform a piece of wood.

We carefully torch the surface, then use water and a brush to remove the loose char, revealing those gorgeous layers of black, brown, and natural woodgrain underneath. The result is a finish that feels both dramatic and organic — and somehow makes everything you place on it pop.

We absolutely love this technique and have been using it on boards we’re creating for Bear at Auberge Stanly Ranch.

And today, we’re introducing a brand-new board at Constellation Marketplace. 🤎

Constellation has become our little testing ground for prototypes — a place where I can introduce something that has never been to market before and see how our community responds.

And the timing feels pretty perfect. 👻

This one is a little dark, a little moody, and just right for Halloween season.

Approximately 5¼” W × 12” L × ⅞” thick
$21 + tax

But what I love most? Put a beautiful piece of cheese, fruit, charcuterie, or a few little bites on that dark surface and suddenly… everything pops.

So, I’m curious — are you a fan of the Shou Sugi Ban look?

Tell me in the comments: 🖤 YES or NO?

Available exclusively at Constellation Marketplace while this first batch lasts.

A little quiet here lately… for good reason. 🤎

Behind the scenes, the studio has been anything but quiet.

Between custom orders, client meetings, designing upcoming experiences, and preparing for the holiday season, these past few weeks have been beautifully full.

There are pieces being made, details being considered, and experiences taking shape — all with the same intention that has always been at the heart of House of Quail.

This season is one of my busiest, but also one of my favorite. There’s something especially meaningful about creating pieces that will become part of someone’s table, celebration, home, or hospitality experience.

So while I may be a little quieter on this little corner of the internet, there is a lot happening behind the scenes.

And I can’t wait to share it with you. ✨

This one deserves a permanent place on the grid. ✨

A little glimpse of a beautiful evening in Sacramento, captured by @spenser.micetich .

An intimate table, thoughtful details, good food and wine, and a room filled with local business owners who have, somewhere along the way, become friends.

There’s something special about gathering the people who are creating, building, and pouring their hearts into this community — and getting to slow down long enough to celebrate one another.

A beautiful night, and one I’ll be holding onto for a while. taken in Sacramento, California by @houseofquail

A little behind the scenes of creating these scalloped chargers for my soirée. 🤍

There’s something so special about making the pieces that eventually become part of the table—and even more special when they’re used around a table filled with good food, wine, and people I love.

And, of course, every time I host, I learn a little something for the next one. Next soirée Tripod and have @dianaelenaphotos arrive 30 minutes early to capture the moment. 😂 Because apparently once the soirée begins, I’m far too busy enjoying it to remember to take the photos. taken in Sacramento, California by @houseofquail

Still basking in the glow of such a beautiful evening. ✨

An evening under the twinkling lights, surrounded by incredible local business owners, creatives, friends, great food, wonderful wine, and even better conversation. There’s something so special about gathering around a table and celebrating the people who make our community so wonderful.

A very special thank you to @theclaydade and @saltwaterdesigns_ for coming early and helping me bring everything together. I truly couldn’t have done it without you. 🤍

And to Erik, @ebk_pics Mr. Quail himself, our behind-the-scenes hero and server for the evening — thank you for making sure everything went off without a hitch and, as always, for making me laugh. I love you. 🤍

And a huge thank you to the talented local businesses who helped make the evening so beautiful:

🌸 Flowers — @asteriaflorals
🌿 Edible flowers — @baskfarm
🍽️ Food — @mustardsgrill
✨ Rentals — @celebrationseventrentals
🪑 Seating design — @cricutjunky

Feeling incredibly grateful for this beautiful community and for everyone who gathered around my table. 🥂✨

Here’s to good food, good wine, meaningful connections, and supporting the talented people right here in our own backyard. 🤍 Until next time…✨ taken in Sacramento, California by @houseofquail

Happy 916 Day, Sacramento. 🤍

A little love letter to the city that became home.

Nearly 24 years ago, I left the Bay Area and found my way here. I didn’t know then just how much this place would come to mean to me, or how deeply I would grow to love it.

I found the dearest people here. Long dinners around tables, farmers markets, incredible food and wine, big old trees shading beautiful neighborhoods, and the kind of community that makes a city feel like a collection of little villages.

And then there was that sweet little 1910 Craftsman bungalow. I knew the moment I drove up that she was going to be mine. Somehow, she became the backdrop to so much of this life I’ve built here.

Nearly 24 years of memories, friendships, meals, laughter, hard work, dreams, and finding my place in the world.

Sacramento, you’ve been very good to me.

Here’s to the city that became home.

There’s something about a beautifully set table that makes even the simplest moments feel a little more special. 🤎

This handcrafted walnut serving board was made for exactly that — gathering, sharing, and creating those little moments around the table that become lasting memories.

From an intimate bite with a glass of wine to a beautiful spread shared with friends, I love creating pieces that are meant to be used, loved, and lived with.

Handcrafted in my Sacramento studio, each House of Quail piece is made by hand with the intention of bringing a little more beauty and connection to everyday gatherings.
