POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m Vikki Diaz — founder and creative director of Hous of Trades, co-owner of Leo’s DMV Painting, wife, mom of three, storyteller, and builder of spaces with intention.

I didn’t step into the trades industry just to create pretty content. I stepped in because I lived the pressure behind the business.

I know what it feels like to build when life gets hard, when your family depends on you, and when you have no choice but to figure it out while still showing up.

Through Hous of Trades, I help contractors, designers, builders, and business owners show the real value behind their work — not just the finished project, but the craftsmanship, the process, the leadership, and the story that builds trust.

And now, I’m building BuildHER With Intention — a community for women in construction, design, real estate, and the trades who are ready to stop feeling alone and start building with purpose, faith, collaboration, and authority.

Everything I’m building is bigger than business.

It’s legacy.
It’s obedience.
It’s creating the rooms I wish existed when I was trying to figure it all out.

So yes, allow me to reintroduce myself.

I’m not just creating content.

I’m building visibility.
I’m building community.
I’m building with intention. taken in DMV by @housoftrades

Great brands aren’t built only through the work they do — they’re built through the story they tell.

Working with @guildproperties has been a powerful collaboration. Our goal was simple: capture the real voice behind their brand — the craftsmanship, the vision, and the people who make it happen.

Because when the right story is told the right way, people don’t just see the work… they trust the brand behind it.

Thank you to Guild Properties for trusting Hous of Trades to document and share your journey.

This is what happens when craftsmanship meets intentional storytelling.

I spent 6 months pretending to be my husband online. šŸ˜‚ And let me tell you, it was EXHAUSTING.

I love that man, but we have two VERY different personalities.

What most people don’t know is that while Leo was recovering from a fractured L3 vertebra after his accident, I was behind the scenes working hard to rebuild our company’s online presence.

I was rebranding Leo’s DMV Painting, creating content, writing captions, answering DMs, and figuring out how to keep our business moving forward while my husband focused on healing.

But here’s the funny part…

Online? I WAS LEO. šŸ˜‚

I was trying to write like him, sound like him, and show up as the man behind the company.

Why?

Because deep down, I was afraid people wouldn’t take a woman running a painting company seriously.

I thought if clients knew it was actually me behind the business, we might lose their trust.

Until one day, I decided I was DONE pretending.

I started showing up as myself. The wife, the business partner, the marketing brain, and the girl running the whole changarro.

And guess what happened?

People started saying, ā€œOkay, NOW everything makes sense!ā€ šŸ˜‚

Instead of losing clients, we gained MORE.

People connected with our story, our personalities, and the real people behind the company.

Leo brings the craftsmanship. I bring the business strategy, marketing, and a whole lot of crazy ideas. Together, we’re building something pretty dope.

Looking back, I realize I was so busy trying to make our business look like what I thought a painting company should look like that I almost hid the very thing that made us different.

Sometimes the version of yourself you’re afraid to show is exactly the version people need to see.

And to every woman building something in a male-dominated industry, don’t shrink yourself to fit the expectations of others.

You belong in the room, too.

Even if you’re the girl running the whole changarro. šŸ’…šŸ½

As someone who owns businesses AND works in marketing, I might get some side-eyes for saying this…

But I don’t believe you should have to perform to market your business.

Somewhere along the way, we started believing that if we’re not constantly posting, following trends, or showing up like influencers, we’re falling behind.

And I bought into that too.

Until I realized I was becoming so focused on building businesses that I was forgetting the person behind them.

I still believe in strategy. I still believe in good marketing. That’s literally what I do.

But I also believe that God didn’t give you a unique story just for you to water it down trying to look like everybody else.

Your story is your differentiator. Your authenticity builds trust. And your strategy should amplify who you are, not replace it.

You can build a profitable business without losing yourself in the process.

That’s the kind of marketing I believe in.

Your accomplishments can make people stop and look.

But your story is what makes them stay.

The struggles. The values. The beliefs. The moments behind the scenes that never make it into the ā€œwe closed another dealā€ post.

People don’t just want to know what your company does.

They want to know who you are while you’re doing it.

That’s where trust is built.
That’s where connection happens.
That’s the power of storytelling. taken in DMV by @housoftrades

AI is a great tool for marketing… but if everybody is using the same prompts, the same hooks, and the same polished captions, you’re gonna start blending right in.

If you actually want to stand out, grab your phone and hit record.

Talk about YOU.
Talk about how you started your business.
Talk about what happened on the jobsite today.
Talk about the mistake you made and what it taught you.
Talk about that problem that had you up at 3AM… and the solution you finally figured out.

Because that’s the stuff AI can’t recreate.

Your experience. Your stories. Your personality. Your perspective.

Use AI to help you market your business, absolutely. Just don’t let it become your entire voice.

People aren’t only buying the service anymore. They’re buying into the person and the story behind it.

So yap a little. šŸŽ„ taken in DMV by @housoftrades

For the longest time, I thought I had to fit my work into one neat little title.

Content creator.
Strategist.
Copywriter.
Creative director.
Business owner.

But the truth is… I wear all of those hats because building a brand takes more than just posting pretty content.

I’m looking at your story, your voice, your audience, your business, your positioning, and how all of it comes together so people actually remember you.

Because I’m not here to help you post more just for the sake of being active online.

I want to help you become known.

Known for what you do.
Known for what you believe.
Known for the problem you solve.

That’s the kind of personal brand I believe in.
One that actually sounds like you and makes people remember your name. by @housoftrades

Every time I walk these hospital halls, I see a little bit of 18-year-old me.

The girl who thought motherhood was going to look completely different. The girl whose dream of raising a healthy little boy changed the moment she heard a diagnosis she barely understood.

Back then, I couldn’t see past the fear. I couldn’t understand why God would allow my story to look like this.

Now I wish I could go back and tell her…

Girl, you have no idea what God is going to build through this.

These hospital stays are going to teach you how to advocate, adapt, lead under pressure, ask hard questions, and keep going when life doesn’t go according to plan.

And one day, you’re going to take all of that and build.

Build businesses.
Build opportunities.
Build a life that gives your boys everything you possibly can.

Not because the hard parts were ā€œworth itā€ or because I would’ve chosen them.

But because God didn’t waste any of it.

The life I thought was falling apart at 18 was becoming a story I couldn’t see yet.

God’s plans were bigger than mine. šŸ¤ taken in Children's National Medical Center by @housoftrades

Someone is judging you right now.

And someone else is watching you thinking, ā€œIf she can keep going, maybe I can too.ā€

Neither one is paying your bills.

So keep showing up.

From hospital rooms, job sites, client meetings, school pickup… wherever this season has you.

You don’t need everyone to understand your life. You just need to keep building the one you’re called to live. taken in Children's National Medical Center by @housoftrades

You do not need to become an influencer to market your contracting business.

You just need to stop being a stranger.

Homeowners want to see who they’re trusting with their home. Your face, your crew, your process, the way you explain the work—all of that builds familiarity before the estimate even happens.

Your content doesn’t need to go viral.

It needs to make the right person say, ā€œI’ve seen them before. They know what they’re doing.ā€

One day.

One day I’m going to stand in front of thousands of women founders and teach them how to find their voice online.

Not the ChatGPT version.
Not the version they think will perform better.
Not the version that sounds like everyone else.

Their voice. Their story. Their personality.

One day I’ll teach thousands of entrepreneurs that faith and business don’t have to live in two separate boxes. That you can love God, build something big, serve people, make money, and still remember Who gave you the assignment in the first place.

And one day, I’m going to speak to little girls who feel like they don’t fit the mold.

The slow reader.
The girl who can’t sit still.
The girl whose brain works differently.
The one who’s ā€œtoo creative,ā€ asks too many questions, or struggles in a classroom built for a different kind of learner.

I want her to know that her current situation does not get to decide her future.

Because maybe the things that made you feel like a bad student are some of the exact things that can make you one hell of an entrepreneur.

The creativity.
The curiosity.
The ability to see things differently.
The refusal to fit inside the box.

One day I’ll teach this to thousands.

But for now?

I’m building it.
I’m living it.
And I’m documenting the messy middle on the way there. taken in DMV by @housoftrades
