Number 2 on 2023 highlight list was this tragic moment. 2023 was an incredible year of both highs and lows…and this reel caught a low moment on the 2023 humpbackwhale migration. That being when a 10 year old juvenile male whale didn’t make it. A reminder that that they face so many hardships in their life and we need to do everything in our powers to create awareness and keep our oceans clean for them.

A true highlight however was over 1.8 million people watching and reacting to the reel and 88,000 people being moved and expressing their concerns..an amazing community we’ve built together. For which I am truly grateful . The reaction was amazing when you consider, it was only a few decades ago that we almost hunted them to extinction. With amazing efforts we’ve helped turn that around and it’s estimated almost 40,000 now migrate from Antartica to warmers waters each year.

With over 4 Australian Universities, and countless overseas studies now concluding Drones have no impact on whales, It’s hoped that via the use of this non evasive technology I can share these amazing images of these whales, create some awareness, and we can can continue to be amazed by them and continue to ensure their survival. Who knows Perhaps one day we won’t even need to capture Dolphins. by @hover_images

These two whales were pretty smitten with each other. They were loving life and doing this behavior for at least an hour with the occasional,stop for a,sneaky cuddle then a jump out, followed up with some flapping. ..
And at last three groups of whales just casually cruised by as if nothing was happening

My favourite colour is blue….especially when the water is this colour.

Not many days of sunshine this year, and water colour has been impacted by lots of rainwater, luckily I was there one day early this week and filmed these two adults heading north.

Lots of whales, like this pair travelling in groups of two or threes this year…seen a few pods but not many.

Not every path is visible from the surface.

Love seeing such a different life playing out, high above in the sky…the struggle, the battle, the victory, a tender moment between whales, dolphins and nature…..the more people seeing this mystery play out the better. It’s a world that you can only see via a drone.

My first mother and calf of the 2026 southern hemisphere whale season….it slipped gently past with an escort from two Dolphins..mum wasn’t too impressed with the Dolphins and kept her new calf pretty close.

This calf I reckon is about 3ish weeks old is my guess. They’re typically born a little whiter or sometimes all white and change over the next few weeks.

Do you think me, showing 2:whales, jumping half to maybe three quarters out of the water, is equal to one whole whale jumping fully out? 🤔🤔🤔

I guess if you just swam for a whole two months, thousands of kilometres the urge to jump fully out may be a little less.

Can you count the number of seagulls in this clip?..maybe I should have prize if you guess right🤔🤔

Did you know that seagulls track splashing whales just for a free lunch? 🐋🐳🐋🪿🪿

When whales breach or feed, they push little fish to the surface.

Seagulls are highly opportunistic scavengers, and the massive energy whales expend while splashing gives the birds a completely effortless, free meal.

Talk about working smarter, not harder!
