The award-winning Chasing Silver, the first ever miniseries on television for Tarpon. It’s a candid look behind the scenes, a glimpse of what the obsession has done and why it’s worth the chase. A true cast of characters, including Andy Mill &Tom Rowland (both featured on our CAMERAS OFF Podcast) Link in bio. All were looking to crack the code on the most magical fish on the Florida flats. Sometimes it was harder than others. But it became a classic that may never be seen again.

Bob Popovics's was a friend to everyone. His heart and his front door were open. Literally. You could walk right in the door on Tuesday nights for many years. I found a few clips from Running the Coast as an attempt to provide remembrance for a man who shared his love for Flyfishing, and the outdoors in general, every day of the year at home, at his restaurant, on the beach, at tradeshows, on the phone. He was there when you needed him. There are contemporaries who knew him much longer than I, but I imagine we all shared the same fondness for a water loving, fly tying, artist on the vise. (Loved filming Bob's trip to Montauk and the camaraderie with Paul Dixon we shared in Running the Coast) HowardFilms.com by @howard_films

NOW LIVE-
“The Kid” - Keys guide Shawn McKay joins us this week. (CAMERAS OFF Pod link in bio) Trusting the process has yielded some impressive results and the salt life he wished for.

I first met Shawn in Island Park, Idaho while fishing The Henry’s Fork. His love of fishing started early in is native Tennessee, and wound its way through the American West, until he found his calling: Keys Fishing (with an emphasis on Permit). It’s been fun watching his journey unfold. Trout and bass first fueled his passion for fishing at home, and today, he’s testing himself in new ways—including the 2024 IGFA Permit Invitational Championship with his Angler Alejandro “Sand Flea” Vega—(and 2023 IGFA Permit Invitational Runner-ups) while doing whatever it takes to make a life on the flats. This conversation isn’t about trophies though. It’s about the need to explore, learn and discover. Finding Mojo on the water —trusting your instincts, and making the most of a Saltwater education. Where the next chapter of this journey may lead. And a couple of stories worth repeating. Enjoy.

Our friend, Tom Rowland, joins us this Tuesday on the Podcast (link in bio) to tell the rest of his story. You may know Tom from his Saltwater Experience show. But his story starts way before that in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a sought after guide, tournament angler, in both fresh and saltwater. He jumped in to create a fishing film for television. Crazy right? (Chasing Silver and Location X) He was a great talent before he was on TV. A winner of the ESPN Great Outdoor Games and he had devoted his life to exploring the Florida flats (and other ) from every angle.

Today, the outdoorsman, fitness leader, co-host of Saltwater Experience, podcast host, and cofounder of Waypoint’s TV has had a journey it was time to share. It’s a great story and we also found what drives him after all these years. Enjoy.

*Giant Trevally doing work on bait. Great shot by today’s guest Christiaan Pretorius in Seychelles.

Today on CAMERAS OFF-Link in bio-we discuss the art of chasing once in a lifetime opportunities. And how to share the images and the experience with Christiaan Pretorius. @christiaanpretorius What goes right, what goes wrong, and how do you bring home the right image to tell the story when you are juggling being a host, guide, Filmmaker, Photographer, and travel agent.

We sit down with South African fly fishing adventurer (and teen international angling champ) to get the story of how he got here, what he learned, and where he’s going. It’s not always easy when you are based in earths version of Mars (Namibia) together there.

—To the remote wilderness of Kamchatka, Russia—where he spent multiple seasons guiding on the legendary Zhupanova River—to the turquoise flats of the Seychelles, pursuing giant trevally in some of the most demanding conditions on earth.

Today, he uses that perspective to help support conservation efforts and indigenous communities around the world through organizations like the Indifly Foundation. And keep chasing the dream and creating new visions from wherever the fish may lead him.

Today on CAMERAS OFF -link in bio -we are live from Namibia. What happens when a six-year-old catches his first trout on a fly rod and immediately knows what he wants to do for the rest of his life? Well, it starts with some international competition as a teen. A commitment to photography to capture it all… (And today, it’s about getting all that gear on a plane!)

We sit down with South African fly fishing adventurer, guide, photographer, artist, and explorer Christiaan Pretorius.

Long before he was chasing giant fish across the globe, Christiaan was representing South Africa in international competition at just fourteen years old. Since then, his journey has taken him from the remote wilderness of Kamchatka, Russia—where he spent multiple seasons guiding on the legendary Zhupanova River—to the turquoise flats of the Seychelles, pursuing giant trevally in some of the most demanding conditions on earth.

He’s also a gifted photographer and artist who sees fish, wild places, and moving water through a unique creative lens. Today, he uses that perspective to help support conservation efforts and indigenous communities around the world through organizations like the Indifly Foundation.

Today, we share the rest of the story. (CAMERAS OFF Podcast Spotify/Apple link in bio) With your favorite host of America’s longest running fishing show. Behind the glasses and the signature Tennessee hat, a candid conversation with The Original. Dance gave up his fishing tournaments and paychecks to share his love of sport with the world. It wasn’t easy. And as you can tell from his blooper reels. It still isn’t… :-) Dominating early tournament trails, winning 7 Bassmaster events and locking down 3 Bassmaster Angler of the Year titles—all before he even turned 40. And the very first bass in Bassmaster tournament history. With his iconic orange and white University of Tennessee cap and a sense of humor, he made history, teaching the world on “Bill Dance Outdoors.” And yes ... his iconic blooper reels added to the legend. At 85 years young, (recently named Tennessean of the Year) Bill continues to actively advocate for wildlife conservation and getting the next generation outside.

New episode. Classic Intel. Recalling the best of the best, including his father, and a lifetime of insights on the water. Carl Navarre Jr. shares his world on The Tarpon Diaries on CAMERAS OFF (pod link in bio). We take a deep dive into what makes Florida fishing special including some skills you may not have heard about. And importantly, the conservation that is well underway thanks to BTT. Navarre is Chairman Emeritus of Bonefish & Tarpon Trust and is uniquely qualified to share angling history: From Billy Pate to Steve Huff, the origin of the flats tactics, and who helped in the evolution. Carl followed his father from field to stream to ocean and found his passion. He caught an IGFA fly-fishing world record bonefish that weighed 15 pounds, 1+ ounce (often cited as 15.3 pounds). He landed this trophy fish in the Florida Keys using 20-pound tippet, and and IGFA 36 lb 8 oz record permit on 12-lb. tippet-class. But in the end, he says his greatest moments were about more than the records. Enjoy this rare chance to jump in the Time Machine and enjoy a front row seat.
