September Recap!

Highlights:
Victorious- V.E. Schwab (publishes on Oct 6) This was the conclusion to her Villains trilogy and one of my most anticipated reads this year. Book 1 is still a favorite but this is a close second!

Ashes At The Altar- LaDarrion Williams was another book I was looking forward to and it was full of action and ended perfectly!

Jahquel J dropped HOAG2 on Sept 8 and I started reading at 3:01am and didn’t put my kindle down until I finished! Or it finished me. 🫣 by @howardreads

July Reading Recap
My nonfiction pick this month was Heavy- Kiese Laymon. This memoir is exceptional and raw. Highly recommend picking this one up!

Fruit Fly- Josh Silver. What a ride. Mallory Maddox and Leo will keep you entertained while reading. Publishing on Tuesday Aug 4!

The Alchemy of Souls- Granger. Each book in this series is better than the last and I loved The Mortal Affairs!

There’s Only One Sin in Hollywood
A cinematic, razor-sharp novel following a backlot fixer’s (Aaron Toussaint) daring investigation into the suspicious death of a closeted Black actor within the glamorous world of Hollywood.

This story is so compelling and you can tell the author did a ton of research to deliver such a great novel. He makes the characters feel so real that I wanted to go down several rabbit holes after reading to get more information about Xavier Barlow. This book will definitely stay with me. Jelani Alladin narrates the audiobook and it’s great!

Thank you to @macmillan.audio and @flatiron_books for gifting me the physical and ALC for an honest review.

Beyond First Glance: Stories of Love and Desire
From a long-standing friendship tested by a sudden, haunting silence to a marriage precariously built on the secrets of a spy’s cover, these interconnected tales navigate the messy, complex, and beautiful aftermath of the “initial spark”.

I really enjoyed this collection and each story was written beautifully! I loved that in each story we get a different view of “love”. If I had to pick a favorite story it would be “Under Long-Term Observation”

Beyond First Glance is available for purchase today! Happy Publication Day!! @scarlet.ibis.james Thank you for my gifted copy! by @howardreads
