HOW IT STARTED 8

We are back for a final dance of 2026!!

It's always a pleasure to come back to @avaloncafebermondsey and this time we're really excited to bring back @dekk_sudiarta and @obedeya for a very special extended b2b set covering a multitude of styles.

@hickeyplaysrecords will be closing out the night with a 90-min mix of jungle, D&B and some fast tempo curveballs.

It's an absolute pleasure to have @david_ethics on hosting duties for this one! Been looking to have him down for a while and so happy we can finally link up.

Film pic taken by me in New Zealand - something a little different for the poster!!

100% vinyl as always!

This is going to be a really fun one. Come early, stay till the end.

WOW...

It had been almost a year since I'd put one of these on and last night has fully reminded me how valuable this community is.

I started this three years ago with a few mates who wanted to give it a go, and I could not be prouder of the audience we have built. It's a safe space with a huge variety of people, and everyone is there to have FUN. I cannot thank you all enough for the support, love and energy you continue to show to this project. My heart is full ❤️

This was a huge team effort, so big shouts to:

MAKING OF THE POSTER @elizabeth.ofarrelly

Before we hit the floor tonight I want to give a huge shout-out to @elizabeth.ofarrelly for creating the bus stop featured on the poster.

Elizabeth is an artist and miniature maker from London. She originally created the bus stop as a part of her final graduate project, based around places from her childhood and I fell in love with it.

As a London based event, I wanted to feature something on the poster that immediately represented London nightlife, and to me, getting the bus to and from the club is such a core part of the experience, reflecting on the night or what is to come.

Elizabeth produced the art for my first ever poster three years ago and it's been wonderful to watch her develop her craft and get involved again.

Give her a follow!

INTRODUCING Hickey @olliejhickey

I'm not going to write about myself in third person but it's always a pleasure to step out and play some of my collection for you all!

I'll be coming with a bunch of modern soulful rollers and maybe a few sneaky curveballs depending on how I'm feeling ;))

The vinyl format for me is all about the art of curation, curiosity about music and the physicality of performing it. I love the energy it brings out of the lineup and the audience.

I feel so lucky to have had continued support for How It Started over the last three years from friends and the community and can't thank everyone enough for believing in the vision!

See you Saturday!!

INTRODUCING @shawkdnb

SHAWK has been involved with How It Started since day one, holding it down with soulful and expertly flowing sets, and has been instrumental to the growth of the event.

A known name in the Glasgow Drum & Bass scene, they have played regular sets for @midnightbassdnb , @pray.to.good and more, including our one off Glasgow How It Started, in collaboration with @hometownsoundsystem and @watersidelive.

With SHAWK now moving abroad, it's an honour to have them close for a proper How It Started send off. If you've been to a night before, this is the time to come through to show your love to a proper member of the How It Started family.

❤️❤️
