The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to Francis Halzen for his work with the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, which detects high-energy particles from distant regions of the universe.

Drexel scientists are part of the international IceCube Collaboration, including Christina Love, PhD, teaching professor of physics in Drexel's College of Arts and Sciences. Her research group has included Howley College students studying computer science and mechanical engineering.

Love also leads name that Neutrino, a citizen science project where anyone can help analyze IceCube data by classifying signals detected beneath the Antarctic ice.

A few scenes from a summer afternoon at Elwyn Field, where students in MEM 425: Aircraft Design got to see their work take flight. ✈️

After spending the term designing wings and tails for model airplanes, students joined members of the Propstoppers RC Club to test their designs and see how closely the results matched their calculations.

Some flights went better than others, but there was plenty to learn from all of them.

Titanium, natural gas and a furnace: Drexel researchers found a way to grow MXene without the usual acid bath, which could make the 2D nanomaterials easier and less expensive to produce. The team, led by Yury Gogotsi, PhD, also saw the crystals keep growing larger over time, a sign the method could eventually scale up.

On June 12, 2026, our founder and CEO, Nick Howley, gave a commencement address at Drexel University’s School of Engineering. In addition to lauding the benefit of an engineering degree and internship opportunities, Nick addressed the graduates as they embark on the next steps in their lives. Here is an excerpt from his comments that apply to all of us - whether current students, recent graduates or seasoned executives:

“Careers - and life - are rarely straight lines. They zig and zag. Set a few specific professional and personal goals. Write them down. Review them every year or so. Think about where you want to be five years from now. What is your job responsibility? What kind of problems are you solving? Where do you want to be personally? What will make you happy? If you have no goals, any path will get you there - and it hardly matters. And noif you don’t define success for yourself,
someone else will define it for you.”

“You will fail at times. Everyone does. No matter what they may say. The only person who never fails is the person who never tries. Some early ventures didn’t go well for me. But I learned a lot from these. Don’t get too down on yourself. But keep trying. Keep moving forward. Head down. Legs chopping.”

“Success usually comes from skill, hard work-and
luck. You control the first two. And while skill and hard work are not guarantees, they often seem to line up with good luck. You are prepared. You are capable. Now go out and do something with it. Solve hard problems. Build real things. Create real value. And yes- kick some ass.”

“Make [your school] proud. Make your families proud. Most importantly, make yourselves proud.” by @howleycollege
