🌇 The best cities are the ones where everyone has the opportunity to stay.

As housing pressures grow around the world, we need to rethink what urban progress really means. A city’s success should be measured by its ability to provide homes for the people who make it thrive.

This November, #HOWSBCN26 puts this vision at the heart of the global housing conversation. A place to bring ideas into action and advance solutions that make housing more accessible and affordable.

🏡 Let’s create homes for people and build cities for life.

🧱 The future of sustainable construction may depend as much on how we take buildings apart as how we put them together.

In Aarhus, Circle House applies circular economy principles to social housing.

The project challenges a long-standing assumption that buildings eventually become waste. Instead, it treats them as evolving systems whose resources can have value long after their original use.

Expected to welcome its first residents in spring 2027, Circle House offers new ways of thinking about the lifecycle of our cities.

Tickets for HOWS Barcelona 2026 are now live! 🏠

The housing crisis needs more than good intentions — it needs coordinated action. 🌍 That’s where 𝗛𝗢𝗪𝗦 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗮 | 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 comes in: bringing together those shaping urban housing strategy to share expertise and move solutions forward.

Why #HOWSBCN26 deserves a spot on your agenda:

🔗 A cross-sector agenda. Planning, finance, construction and regulation, tackled together instead of in silos.

🎤 Built for decision-makers. Keynotes, roundtables and project activation sessions designed to move from discussion to execution.

🤝 Direct political dialogue. Closed-door sessions to exchange best practices between cities.

📍 Global reach, local impact. By building on the international platform of @smartcityexpo, HOWS puts housing access at the centre of urban policy, with access to selected sessions and the SCEWC exhibition area.

Barcelona is stepping up to lead the conversation: three days to connect, learn and rethink how cities approach affordable housing.

New York City is putting public land to work for housing 🏠.

Its new interactive tool, the Land Inventory Fast Track (LIFT) Tracker, gives residents a clearer view of how city-owned sites across the five boroughs are being used to bring affordable housing forward.

The tool currently maps 100+ public sites linked to more than 50,000 new homes, while also showing where housing can be combined with amenities such as libraries and neighborhood services.

☝️ And it sits within a wider strategy: New York 🗽 aims to bring at least five new public sites to market every year and deliver 200,000 new affordable homes over the next decade.
