✨ Eid al-Fitr 2025 aH! ✨ #andthatsawrap✌🏼️

While getting pics with the littles was like pulling hair and teeth, I used gifts as bribes and guilt tripped ‘em into some pretty decent shots 😉

I thoroughly enjoyed wrapping all the littles surprises in custom Eid wrapping paper, which neither they nor their parentals noticed 😅, but it makes me sooo happy that we have such a vast array of incredible Muslim brands (all female-owned!) that now help make our holidays extra festive! 😍

What a day full of cheer 🥳 celebrating in community basking in His gifts with a lightness in the air. Alhamdulilah for what this Ramadan brought, and what it helped us work through. May we witness its fruits in the days and months to come and carry on its spirit till the next iA 🤲🏼

Finally got to rock my 🇸🇳 garb from last July and was missing my Medina Baye crew @ilaverse @farah.elsharif @a.s.n.s @sukina_noor @rasheedah_shabazz 💗 by @hoya713

Returning to 🏃🏻‍♀️ after time away is never easy, but @ally_loop made it look like a walk in the park today! I couldn’t be prouder of my dedicated pelvic floor PT @prettypelvis.dpt turned dear friend for her absolute stellar performance - she pushed past her own limits to hit her goal time on the dot! 🙌🏼💪🏼
.
Today was dreary cold and somewhat hilly (a combo I strongly dislike lol), but somehow racing and pacing together made the momentary pains fade away (well at least till the end when we realized we were freezing🥶) - thank God for that ☕️ truck after the 🏁!
.
The sweetest post-race moments were capturing Ally’s girls beaming with pride as Mama showed them her new, shiny, hard-earned medal 🥰🏅 Peep the cutest signs and mini-runs Mama inspired too ☺️ Looks like we have some future @gotrdfw girls in the making ;)
.
As always, s/o to @rundmrc for all the pre, during, and post-race hype and loving on us extra hard as we neared the finish - those cheers carried us through! ♥️
.
Welcome back to racing Ally! 🥳 Excited for all our 🏃🏻‍♀️ adventures ahead ;) 🙏🏼

This past Saturday, I hit my highest mileage this marathon training cycle aH 🙌🏼😅 It feels like a huge milestone as it was at this point last year where training took a downward turn and where the injuries I’m still working through first came about.
.
Everything about this cycle has been different. I’ve shifted to full-on run/walking thanks to my amazing coach @sydneytdevore , which has hands-down saved and protected my limbs, allowing for continuous recovery and made training all around more enjoyable. I’ve stuck to short strength training sessions three times a week, regular monthly massages (I always thought that was extra, but now I am that person 😂), and PT consistently. My phenomenal pelvic floor PT @prettypelvis.dpt has been such a saving grace! Finally, when May rolled around, I knew I couldn’t bear another cycle of 🏃🏻‍♀️ in the excruciating TX heat (amazed by everyone who’s still pushing thru tho!) and made the steep investment in a home treadmill. It’s been an absolute game-changer!
.
But most of all, I’ve worked on changing my mindset. Chicago proved I’m capable of crossing a marathon 🏁, but only if I let go of comparison and🏃🏻‍♀️ at my own pace. This cycle, I’ve tried to reel in my perfectionism and forego any expected outcomes. Knowing the end goal is possible iA has brought less resistance in my path. Each 🏃🏻‍♀️ has been a mini race of its own, and I’ve focused on showing up and staying committed no matter how I feel.
.
The slow but steady deposits over these past few months have thankfully paid off. I couldn’t be more grateful to have gotten to this point with so much more ease and all the support from folks all over! Shout out to @sefashionbee for making Berlin dreams come true and to @rundmrc and @gotrdfw fams for all the continuous cheer! #thankfultuesday #marathontraining #runningreflections #runyourownrace #investinyourself #berlinbound🇩🇪 #inshallah #noccteamteal #runforjoy by @hoya713

🗓 10.10.2021 - the day I officially became a marathoner! 🏃🏻‍♀️
.
Still feels soo surreal on this #firsttimerfriday. I’ve been riding off the high of crossing the #chicagomarathon 🏁 all week, and I can truly say it was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced!
.
I walked away with a deep sense of joy as the course itself felt like one big celebration! 🎉 I was far from ready for 26.2, but thanks to my amazing 🏃🏻‍♀️ coach @sydneytdevore of @mckirdytrained and dietitian @starla_shines , I learned to pivot, to let go of expectations, and to accept and appreciate all that my body was able to give in the moment. That hard lesson in humility gave me a chance to really enjoy my first marathon, to take in the electric energies of the crowd, to laugh at silly signs, to high five random strangers, and to truly run happy. 😁
.
If there’s anything race day and this training cycle have taught me, it’s to run your own race at your own pace. Life’s so much more enjoyable when you’re present to your reality and able to appreciate it for all the beauty it has to offer instead of wishing and wanting for more. I followed my plan and gave it my all, and finished!! #chimarathon was an absolutely phenomenal experience, and one that I’ll forever cherish. ♥️
.
Nothing great can be accomplished alone, and there were so many hands at play to ensure I made it to the #chicagostartline. Alongside my coach and dietitian, a huge shootout to my PT’s @gabriellagreif.dpt and @nurahhemeida and chiro (not on IG) who got my body out of sorts post-injury just three weeks short of the race. I wouldn’t be here without the tremendous outpouring of love, support, and belief in me from family and friends near and far.
.
I’m deeply indebted to my dear friend and 🏃🏻‍♀️ buddy @masijapat who came to cheer me on in-person and made sure I didn’t chicken out, to my sweet cousin @marriamsali who showed up at miles 13-14 and put an extra pep in my step, to my @gotrdfw girls and fellow coaches along with the best hype crew @rundmrc who showered me with uplifting messages when I needed it most, not to mention everyone who’s been 🥳 with me all this week! I’ll be forever grateful! #alhamdulillah #marathoner by @hoya713

As I prepare for my travels to Chicago a week from today iA, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude to have made it this far. Two weeks ago, while sitting through an all-day work seminar, I was overcome by the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. Worse than after previous car accidents, I literally couldn’t sit on my tush without fighting back tears.
.
I came to learn that I had “pain in the butt syndrome” (yes it’s a real thing 😂 ), which is a common runners injury from overuse of the glutes and hamstrings. The pain was so severe that it triggered lower back pains, led to sciatica in my legs, and the worst deep inner glute and groin pains. Talk about worst timing - my peak mileage week for the marathon.
.
At that point, running Chicago seemed out of the picture, a reality I wasn’t quite willing nor ready to accept. I’d worked too hard to give it all up in a moment, no matter how badly my body was aching.
.
Over the course of these two weeks, I’ve been blessed to be treated by some of the best hands that have brought my limbs tremendous healing. I began seeing my chiro again, scaled back on 🏃🏻‍♀️, had dry needling, cupping, and graston done, got weekly massages, and reintegrated strength, mobility, and stretching that were often the first to go when short on time.
.
But more importantly, I learned to let go of all expectations for race day (of even making it there) and let pain be my guide. My full attention went to healing and recovery, honoring my body for what it needed, and accepting the movement it could offer. I released control to allow healing, and while the journey has been slow, it is thankfully coming along 🙏🏼
.
Sitting here now (icing my 🍑 lol), I can’t help getting teary eyed. Marathon training has been the toughest endeavor I’ve ever taken on, and to stand at the start line in Chicago (and God-willing make it to the finish!) will be such a victory. I’m utterly grateful for all of my coaches and recovery team, and the family and friends who’ve believed in me and cheered me on every step of the way. This journey definitely takes a village, and I’m so deeply grateful for mine. #thankfulthursday❤️ by @hoya713
