POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Our second-year Design Management, International students started their course Transforming and Humanising Organisations. This year, they are exploring interprofessional collaboration in healthcare.

On their first day, they met with Prof. Dr. Christian Schirlo at the Luzerner Kantonsspital (LUKS). The conversation began with a question: Is there a relationship between patient safety and interprofessional collaboration?

Professional competencies, time, discharge rounds, and integrated care were among the many topics discussed.

Stay tuned to learn how Design Managers can support interprofessional collaboration in healthcare!

With the third-year class, we visited Randebandi, a solidary farm / community supported agriculture in Lucerne. This was part of the two courses Systemic Design and Resilience Challenges and Regenerative Development, where we're currently exploring the regional food system and how various organisations contribute to developing a future food system.

The visit was valuable because solidary farming offers an innovative, community-based agricultural model. It focuses on soil health, farmer wellbeing, and community food access. Through prepaid annual subscriptions, farmers gain financial planning security; the harvest is shared collectively, distributing risk across the membership rather than placing it solely on farmers. Organic, soil-focused practices benefit both the ecosystem and consumers. The farm also serves as a community hub, hosting events like camping, and encourages hands-on engagement with the land.

For students, this brought the food system to life from both ecological and social perspectives, a lens they'll carry forward when examining other organisations in the sector.

Solidary farming provides a tangible example of how a different economic model can redistribute risk, strengthen community participation, and connect ecological regeneration with social wellbeing. by @hslu_designmanagement

🎓 Graduation Project 2026 - Laura Caggiano

Direction in Dialogue
When a team loses the person who used to hold everything together, work continues, but a shared sense of direction does not.

Laura designed recurring dialogue spaces that helped a team build a shared sense of direction after a structural change, while preserving the autonomy, support and connection they already had.

A question goes up in a shared space. The team leaves thoughts on it during the week. Someone picks a focus and brings it to a meeting that already exists. Half an hour of conversation. A short summary goes back to the team. Then a new question.

Swipe through to discover the systemic area, her design strategy, and how the intervention works.

"Thank you for letting us grow." was the message of the students. Over the three last years, our Design Management graduates learned to design how organisations work, learn, and grow. It was a pleasure to share this journey with them. Congratulations to the Class of 2026!!

Meet Lena Heinen and her BA Graduation Project: “The Strategy Between Us — On Creating The Conditions For Mutual Seeing”

Lena kept noticing that silence often followed requests for feedback, even when people seemed engaged. Through her project, she explored how strategy is experienced by both the Customer Success team and sales representatives, and found that the challenge was not simply alignment but creating opportunities for both sides to better understand each other’s realities. Her project proposes four interconnected interventions designed to make that mutual seeing possible.

Meet Juulia Kumpuvaara and her BA Graduation Project: “Building the Connective Layer — Designing an Intermediary Ecosystem for Early-Career Access Through Cross-Actor Coordination”

Juulia kept noticing that more and more people are talking about how AI is affecting hiring, especially when it comes to entry-level roles. Through her project, she explored how education, employers, and support programs can work more closely together and found that many of the challenges facing early-career professionals stem from a lack of coordination across the system. Her project proposes an intermediary ecosystem designed to create stronger pathways into meaningful early-career opportunities.

Meet Sarah Singh and her BA Graduation Project: “Designing the Discovery — Understanding and Supporting the Process of Finding a Thesis Topic for Students in Switzerland”

Sarah kept noticing that developing a thesis topic can be one of the most uncertain parts of the thesis process. Through her research, she explored how students search for ideas, opportunities, and support, and found that many useful resources already exist but are often scattered across platforms, people, and networks. Her project focuses on making these opportunities more visible and accessible earlier, so students can spend less time figuring out where to look and more time exploring meaningful directions.

Meet Aline Strecker and her BA Graduation Project: “Designing for Collective Action in Rheinfelden’s Old Town — Bringing Business Insight and Relational Infrastructure to Independent Shop Owners”

Aline kept noticing that shop owners in Rheinfelden’s old town do not lack interest in change, but often lack the trust, shared goals, and practical conditions needed to act together. Through her project, she explored how existing knowledge can become more visible and developed ShopInsights, a tool that provides relevant business insights and creates low-threshold opportunities for exchange, helping individual perspectives grow into collective understanding.

Meet Mariia Kudin and her BA Graduation Project: “Beyond Care — Designing for Organisational Resilience and Children’s Autonomy in Residential Care”

Mariia kept noticing that even the most dedicated support organisations struggle to stay resilient when resources are limited and challenges keep changing. Through her project with the Light for Forgotten Children Foundation, she explored how support systems can strengthen both organisational resilience and children’s autonomy by creating opportunities for shared learning, participation, reflection, and community connection.

Meet Juthamanee Mukchoed and her BA Graduation Project: “Making Personal Development Visible — Connecting People Development Strategy to Everyday Work”

Jutha kept noticing that people at work are constantly learning, growing, and developing themselves, but these moments often disappear into the day and remain invisible. Through her project with Autoneum, she explored why development is treated as something extra rather than part of everyday work, and developed simple recommendations and a Development Conversation Guide to help teams and managers recognise and talk about growth as it happens.

Meet Laura Caggiano and her BA Graduation Project: “Direction in Dialogue — Co-Designing Conditions for Shared Orientation in a Small Design Firm in Transition”

Laura kept noticing that even when a team manages change remarkably well, questions about the future do not simply disappear. Through her project, she explored how shared direction can emerge through everyday dialogue, not by defining it from the top, but by shaping it together so people can feel oriented towards the future.

Meet Rosana del Carmen Baumann and her BA Graduation Project: "Passing the Baton — Designing Visible Care Coordination at Socio-Medical Transitions"

Rosana kept noticing that the work holding care together stayed invisible. Across Emmental and Oberaargau, a patient's information often didn't travel at the moment of handover, so a Spitex nurse would arrive after a discharge to find no medication organised and no handover note. Working with the Swiss Center for Design and Health, her response pairs two tools: an advocacy paper that gives this coordination work a name, and a handover tool that travels with the patient across transitions.
