Transforming a manuscript into a finished book is a team effort, and getting that book into the hands of readers requires an army of book lovers and champions. I’m so grateful to everyone who has and continues to support me and my books.
Huge thanks to @sarahodedina for her patience and encouragement and for helping me shape this story into something that is not just a sequel but also a standalone adventure. To Tilda Johnson for being a dream to work with on line and copy edits (again). To @thycup246 for transforming my vague idea for a visual into a stunning cover. To the fantastic team at Pushkin Press—Vicki, Rima, India, Rory, Maya, Elisabeth, Sarah, Ruth, Adam—for turning this manuscript into a beautiful book and sending it out into the world, with the help of the dedicated Bounce sales team.
I’m eternally grateful to the readers, book bloggers, booksellers, teachers, librarians and other authors for their kind words about my books and enthusiasm for fearsome faeries. I’m so incredibly happy that by now there really are too many of you to mention. But I want to give a special thank you to the wonderful book bloggers who have joined the blog review tour in the past two weeks, and to Tamsin Rosewell and Thomas Taylor for once again surprising me with a book review in the illustrious (and very real) Fairy Investigation Society newsletter.
Last but not least, I would not be able to write at all without my family supporting me through all the ups and downs of this precarious career.
THANK YOU!

My heart is full to the brim after going through some of the wonderful things authors, teachers, librarians, booksellers, book bloggers and other readers have said about INTO THE FAERIE HILL. Thank you again to everyone who went on the first adventure with Alfred, Saga and Mr Tumbleweed. I so appreciate that you took time to read and review. Hxxx
💚🧚💙
If you haven’t read this first book about the fearsome faeries of the Faerie Hill yet, there is still time before the sequel—THE CHANGELING CHILD—publishes in August in the UK. And for North American readers, you just have to wait one week for the first book—plenty of time to preorder—with the second adventure coming in October.
Find links to order or preorder both books anywhere in the world in my bio…

A lovely (long) lunch-break biking and hiking trip to Verwall.
This lake with its incredibly green water is one of my favourite places, especially in autumn when the leaves turn yellow.
As it was a working day, I brought my Faerie Hill books to take a few photos—very productive, right?

I’m sitting in the sun and reading aloud to myself. And, yes, that is completely normal writer behaviour.
I usually do this before sending off a draft to check the rhythm of the sentences and that the dialogue sounds reasonably natural. (Faeries tend to speak a little differently from humans!)
It’s also one of the best tools to catch those tiny mistakes, like missing or double words and spelling errors, like when I had written ‘spite’ instead of ‘sprite’ in Into The Faerie Hill… no spell checker caught that.
On my last read-aloud, when I’m proofreading the final text, I even read the book backwards starting from the last sentence.
Writers, when do you read your manuscripts aloud?

I loved everything about this epic, wondrous, utterly captivating, and brilliantly told story. What a marvellous book!

It was even better than I had hoped (and my hopes were sky-high). From the very first page, I was completely entranced, and I gobbled the story up in a day, like a smothering book-eating monster.

The adventure takes place in the borderlands of the Everyday and a deliciously dark version of Faery, featuring not only faerie creatures but also a spectacular cast of witches, ghosts, and monsters. I’ve loved portal fantasies since I first followed Lucy through a wardrobe, and I so enjoyed journeying into Faery with Tom on this gripping adventure and discovering the magical world from his perspective, in his strong interior voice.

Like brave and determined Tom, all the characters are compelling. I adored Tom’s feisty sister Polly and the spirited hob witch Persistence, not to mention the grotesque yet endearing Fleaswax and the wodewose. I also thoroughly enjoyed all the other ferieshers, perishers, terrifying monsters, and more ambiguous characters.

The scope and richness of the world-building make for a wonderfully immersive reading experience and promise more to come in future books. The way the Faerwell Lantern and the hidden labyrinth work to separate the two worlds is imaginative and well-thought-out. The lore around figments and the magical power of the imagination are wonderful inventions too, and I delighted in the wordplay and the little nods to Diana Wynne Jones.

I’m a huge fan of the Malamander series, but this is my favorite Thomas Taylor book (so far). I can’t wait to discover what marvels the next Faerwell Lantern book will uncover.

And I’m absolutely delighted if my own ventures into Faerie could inspire a smidgen of this wondrous, dark faery world, as Thomas generously indicates in the acknowledgments.

Coming to a bookshop near you in April 2027!

Huge thanks to @thomskagram and @puffinbooksuk for sending me this gorgeous proof!

One of my favourite quotes about the nature in the high mountains. (Though, obviously and being from Denmark, my eyes can find beauty in plains and flat landscapes too.😉)
💚⛰️💙
“A country of plains, however beautiful, was never so to my eyes. I need torrents, rocks, fir trees, dark woods, mountains, rugged paths to climb and descend, precipices at my sides to fill me with fear.” - Jean-Jacques Rousseau
