3 lata połowa roku

W czerwcu jury wyłoniło laureatki i laureatów konkursu fotograficznego „Oswajanie miasta”. Każdą z osób poprosiłyśmy, by opowiedziała nam o miejscach, relacjach i doświadczeniach zapisanych w nagrodzonych projektach.

✷ Valentyn Zinchenko w projekcie „3 lata połowa roku” przygląda się ludziom, obiektom i miejscom, które przyciągały jego uwagę po przeprowadzce do Warszawy.

Zdjęcia powstawały przez około pół roku. Część z nich jest czarno-biała, część kolorowa, część wykonana aparatem cyfrowym, część na kliszy, część manualnie, część kompaktem. Ta różnorodność nie jest przypadkowa. Odzwierciedla zmienne nastroje i stany towarzyszące doświadczeniu emigracji.

W krótkim czasie zmienia się nie tylko otoczenie, ale też sposób patrzenia, poruszania się po mieście i budowania w nim codzienności.

Efekt tej opowieści o oswajaniu Warszawy będzie można zobaczyć 4 września podczas Nocy Fotografii.

3 Years, Half a Year

In June, the jury selected the winners of the “Making the City One’s Own” photography competition. We asked each of them to tell us about the places, relationships, and experiences captured in their awarded projects.

✷ In his project “3 Years, Half a Year”, Valentyn Zinchenko looks at the people, objects, and places that caught his attention after he moved to Warsaw.

The photographs were taken over the course of about six months. Some are black and white, others are in colour; some were taken with a digital camera, others on film; some with a manual camera, others with a compact camera. This variety is not accidental. It reflects the shifting moods and states that accompany the experience of emigration.

In a short period of time, not only the surroundings change, but also the way one looks, moves through the city, and builds everyday life within it.

This story about making Warsaw one’s own will be presented on 4 September during the Night of Photography by @httpeaacee

we’ve got one of the greatest concerns:
that there may not be enough energy
to carry this feeling with us.

start saving what’s left of these days,
the long nights, the strangers, the places,
everything that made us feel alive.

because when i’m a father,
there may still be enough energy
to remember what it felt like to be here.

we can keep some of it
in the stories, in the people,
in the places we return to.

somewhere deep in our being,
we all come back to this.

Перші фото в роле з більшості моя друга плівка. Відфоткана в основному на мильницю Olympus Superzoom 70G і трошки на старий батін ФЕД.
Тут твіст, який англомовні навряд зрозуміють, але чомусь спогади про зиму завжди здаються мені трохи мильними.
За цей час встиг закєнтитись з котом Борисом, який пожив у нас трохи, грати в більярд ночами напроліт, будувати до ранку сніжний дім, в якому сиділо 8 людей і пили чай, їсти піцу з жабки, палити вогнище, на яке приїхала пожарка і нам прийшлось тікати.
Короче, не така вже й мильна опера вийшла. Ще й фоткати почав більше;)

First shots from my second roll. Shot mostly on an Olympus Superzoom 80G point-and-shoot and a bit on my dad’s old FED.
There’s a twist you probably won’t really get, but winter memories always feel kinda “soapy” to me.
Around that time I became friends with a cat named Borys that lived with us for a while, played pool all night long, built a snow house till morning where like 8 people were sitting drinking tea, ate Żabka pizza, made a bonfire that firefighters pulled up to so we had to run.
So yeah, not really a soap opera after all. Also somewhere around that time I started taking photos more;)
