Some of our favorite details at Project Overlook started as an idea that couldn’t be found off the shelf.

Same layout, but completely different.

We didn’t move a thing in this vanity area. What changed was the materials and how they play off one another. We wanted this primary bath to be grand, but understated.

Walnut brings warmth through its grain, the soft gray quartzite adds gentle movement, and an oversized metal sconce with textured glass gives the room its moment. Each one knows when to speak up and when to step back.

For the love! Please DON’T LET YOUR MARBLE SCRAPS GO TO WASTE!
(Especially when it’s Calcutta Vintage!)
We try and find creative ways to use all the stone, whether it be a side table, a cutting board or some pretty sexy closet door hardware. Planning ahead to take advantage of the left overs is a winning move, in our book!

We’re sharing a look at some in-progress work! We can’t wait to bring this foyer to life. The curved staircase features a sculptural steel structure, complemented by a faux-finished turret ceiling that adds depth and character overhead. We’re lighting the space with Hubbardton Forge’s Clouds collection, a custom design tailored to the scale of the staircase and serving as the perfect piece of “jewelry” for the space. Featuring softly sculpted, white tortoiseshell-like glass forms reminiscent of billowing clouds, this fixture will bring a beautiful softness to the grand architectural details surrounding it. We can’t wait to see it all come together! #MDSMeetMeInMilan

The never ending journey of home making….

I was showing a client this project this morning as we’ve been discussing a large custom rug for her living room. Her brief, “warm and rich, not too busy, and I don’t want it to stand out.” Which got me thinking about this home in Santa Monica and how much it has evolved over the years.

My client built this beautiful architectural home quite some time ago and we’ve slowly been adding to it, changing things, refining things, never really considering it finished. Which is actually how I love to work.

This room went without a fireplace for years until about a year ago when we started discussing what one might look like. We had virtually no depth to work with, so we designed this rather oversized limestone mantel with beautifully ribbed detailing, all carved by hand by my incredibly talented stone craftsman. The sides gently curve and fold back into the wall, creating the illusion that the fireplace has far more depth than it actually does. In reality, the firebox sits outside the room, so we even had to build a special casing on the exterior of the house to accommodate it.

We also introduced a concealed LED strip above the mantel to gently wash light over the plastered feature wall. The mantel itself is quite shallow, and I knew I didn’t want to clutter it with objects or artwork. I wanted the materials and the architecture to speak for themselves.

The rug, lighting and coffee table were all chosen to complement her gorgeous mohair sofas, which she invested in years ago and still absolutely loves. And I think that’s what I love most about this project. Nothing was rushed, nothing was purchased just to fill a space. We’ve allowed the home to evolve as she has, and to me that’s what makes a home feel truly personal.

This is a true entertainer’s kitchen, expansive enough to hold a full dining table and still give breathing room to two generously sized islands. The dual‑island layout doesn’t just look impressive; it creates a natural flow for cooking, gathering, and hosting.
