🌟 REACH FOR THE STARS 🌟

Yesterday we officially unveiled Huddersfield Rising’s very first mural, Reach for the Stars, at Spring Grove School. ❤️

Created to bring colour, joy and positivity to our streets, the mural celebrates the children of Spring Grove – their kindness, resilience, aspirations and limitless potential.

This has been a truly community-led project, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.

A huge thank you to Headteacher Shazia Azhar and the wonderful children, families and staff at Spring Grove; our brilliant @urbancanvas artists @hoodtheartist and @sierra.tango.echo; Ecobuild Joinery & Construction; @hardeepbhangra_ for his invaluable support with community engagement; Kirklees Council, our local Green councillors @alexandravickers48 , and everyone who donated and supported the project.

And a special thank you to @urbancamerauk for beautifully capturing the mural and its unveiling and @orange_quarter_ltd for the lovely plaque. 📸

Most importantly, to the children of Spring Grove – past, present and future:

✨ Never stop dreaming. Never stop reaching for the stars. We believe in you, and we can’t wait to see what you achieve. ✨

The first of hopefully many Huddersfield Rising murals across our town. 🌈 by @huddersfieldrising

Looking forward to tomorrow’s official opening ceremony for the Spring Grove Primary School mural, painted over the summer holidays. The mural which overlooks the playground features seven painted portraits of pupils from the school, who were all a joy to work with.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this project happen ⭐️ by @huddersfieldrising

Did you know that 96% of people surveyed said they want to see more street art in Huddersfield? 🎨

We’re on a mission to bring high-quality, inclusive public art to our town. Art that celebrates our people, our stories, our heritage and our future.

But this project belongs to Huddersfield, so we want to hear from you.

📍 What would you like to see painted?
📍 Who should be featured?
📍 Which walls, streets or neighbourhoods need a splash of colour?

We’re really excited to be launching a new town centre project with Huddersfield Rising, and we’d love you to be part of it! 🌟

We’re looking for portrait artists of all abilities to help us celebrate the people of Huddersfield. This is about capturing real faces, real stories, and the character of our community. 🎨

You don’t need to be a mural artist.
If you enjoy creating portraits — whatever your style or experience — we’d love to hear from you.

Artists selected for the project will:

* Be fairly paid for their time
* Be provided with all materials
* Have their work featured as part of a public artwork in the town centre

How to get involved:
To be considered, please send us a portrait of:

* Yourself, or
* Someone meaningful to you from Huddersfield

Send your submission to: huddersfieldrising@gmail.com

We’re really keen to hear from a wide mix of people — whether you’re just starting out or have been creating for years. What matters most is your perspective and your connection to Huddersfield. 💜 by @huddersfieldrising

We’re loving this mosaic in Almondbury village depicting Castle Hill. Mosaics make great murals. Have you spotted any you like recently? Let us know in the comments 👇 🌈 🏰 #mosaic #mosaictile #mosaicart #mosaicartist #huddersfield by @huddersfieldrising

Gaining inspo from this amazing mural by @gggreatwhite in north Philly commemorating the legacy of man’s best friends (including a guinea pig). 🐹 💜 🌈 #streetarteverywhere #philadelphia #dog #dogsofinstagram #mural by @huddersfieldrising

Drove past this beautiful mural at the Chestnut Centre celebrating Deighton’s Windrush heritage and had to stop and admire it.

It’s such a powerful example of how public art can honour history, culture and community pride all in one space. Murals like this don’t just brighten a wall — they tell stories, recognise legacy and make people feel seen.

What are some of your favourite murals locally? Or what stories do you think deserve to be on our walls next?

Let’s keep celebrating the people and history that shape our communities. by @huddersfieldrising

Community-led murals don’t just add colour — they can reduce graffiti and anti-social behaviour too.

Research from London’s Design Against Crime Lab shows that when communities take ownership of public space, crime and tagging can fall.

This is why Huddersfield Rising isn’t just about art. It’s about pride. Visibility. Belonging.

Let’s paint something that changes more than walls. 💜
