WHO DISCOVERED HOW TO BREATHE UNDERWATER? JACQUES COUSTEAU received its second honor! Our little book was named one of the Notable Social Studies Books 2026 by the Children's Book Council and the National Council for the Social Studies.

"The selection committee looks for books that emphasize human relations, represent a diversity of groups, and are sensitive to a broad range of cultural experiences, present an original theme or a fresh slant on a traditional topic, are easily readable and of high literary quality, and have a pleasing format and, when appropriate, illustrations that enrich the text."

Congratulations team! @hudrewthis @_celinasun_ @jaymakesbooks @whohqbooks @penguinworkshop

Met my book for the first time today. ‘Who Discovered How to Breathe Underwater?: Jacques Cousteau’ by @nedlazaruswolfe and myself is the most vibrant and kinetic piece of cartooning I have done so far. What an excellent way to wrap up pub week. Thank you @_celinasun_ @jaymakesbooks @penguinworkshop

You might know WHY the leaves fall from the trees, but do you know HOW? In the latest issue of Paper Airplane, @hudrewthis explains *abscission.*

#indiemagazine #indiemag #indiepublishing #noai #noaiart An infographic about the process of abscission, showing the “abscission zones” of plants, where parts of them fall off, such as where leaves and flower petals separate from the rest of the plant. by @hudrewthis

How do you make an engaging science zine?

I was asked to give a science zine-making workshop to the US Earth Science Organization's high school program focused on policy and equity. Naturally, I drew several new illustrations for my slide deck. :P

Here's a first set. Eyeball with arms and legs approaching a zine on the floor. Sparkles are rising up from the zine. "How do you make an engaging science zine?" by @hudrewthis

Everyone, please welcome Poppy. She is fearless and likes making air biscuits.

A vet commented on how elongated Poppy is. “What are you? A snake??” Poppy is only 5 months old so her form may change, but for now she is our little string bean kitten. by @hudrewthis

What does a biodesign lab do? What does one look like? Here is a quick tour of the Biofabrication Lab at Maryland Institute College of Art @micabiolab !

Much gratitude to the director, Professor Ryan Hoover, who responded to my random email and kindly gave me a tour. Making a resource like this for students on an art campus takes so much vision, scrappiness, dealing with red tape…and it was marvelous to see what they’ve accomplished so far and hear what they have planned for the future. If you’re interested in pursuing biodesign as a college or graduate student, look here. taken in Maryland Institute College of Art by @hudrewthis

First of four illustrations for the new @wbur series, 'AI in the Doctor's Office.' The series investigates how patients, researchers, healthcare providers, and institutions view and use various forms of AI in healthcare. With little regulation and oversight, it is vital to document how these new technologies are being adopted in spaces where we make some of our most vulnerable and high stakes decisions.

Link to the whole series below. The awesome trippy art piece is by @atanenhaus . Both Allison and I had the pleasure of working with managing editor @lisacreamer , who did the media equivalent of building an airplane in mid-air and then landing it. Thank you so much Lisa for entrusting local artists with this work.

Another academic year wrapping up! Celebrated and showcased students’ comics and designs at our end-of-semester tradition, the BioArts Bonanza. There were live animals (including Charles, the alligator that was rescued from the Charles River last year), stations to make paper dolls and clay models of our mastodon mascot, and much more.

Something big is on the horizon for science at the college…stay tuned! taken in Massachusetts College of Art and Design by @hudrewthis
