In celebration of Indigenous Peoples' Day, we honor the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these lands since time immemorial and continue to share their cultures, knowledge, and traditions with future generations.

Here at Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site, we recognize the enduring connections Indigenous communities have with this land, including the Mescalero Apache, Kiowa, Comanche, Isleta Pueblo, and Ysleta del Sur Pueblo peoples.

May we continue to learn from Indigenous voices, honor their histories, and care for the land with respect and gratitude. 💚

Welcome….to Hueco Tanks! 🦕

With all the rain we have received, the desert is alive and blooming more than ever!

As Ian Malcolm taught us, life finds a way! Like our tadpole shrimp eggs waiting for the storms to hatch out or like the ocotillos leafing out with the right amount of rain!

Come visit while our ponds are full and the weather is cool! Our Annual Community Fair is a great opportunity to experience Hueco Tanks! It’ll be on October 17 & 18 from 10am to 2pm!!

We were excited to welcome rangers and trail professionals from neighboring and sister Texas State Parks for a hands-on trail workshop! 🤠

Together, we learned how to use a new trail-binding material (aka “trail glue”) to create trails that are more durable, sustainable, and accessible for visitors of all abilities.

It was a great day of learning, collaboration, and sharing ideas across the Texas State Parks family!🌿

Thinking about bringing your pet to the park? 🐾☀️ Here’s what to expect before you visit!

Due to the desert environment, summer heat, rocky terrain, and limited shade, visiting with pets can be challenging — especially during warmer months. To help keep pets safe, they are only allowed on our short picnic trail and park roads.

Before bringing your furry friend, ask yourself:
🐶 Can they handle hot temperatures and rocky ground?
💧 Will they have enough water and shade breaks?
🥾 Are they comfortable with short walks only?

For some pets, a quick stop to enjoy the scenery may be worth it. For others, especially in extreme heat, it may be safest and most comfortable to leave them at home. And remember, leaving a pet in an unattended vehicle is never allowed!

Help us protect your pets, wildlife, and the park by planning ahead!

She’s not blushing… she’s gravid! ❤️🦎

This Eastern Collared Lizard at the park is showing off her beautiful red “gravid blush,” a colorful sign that she’s carrying eggs. These bright markings help researchers and visitors identify pregnant females during breeding season.

Soon, she’ll lay her eggs in sandy soil where the desert sun helps keep them warm until they hatch. Even in the rugged Chihuahuan Desert, new life finds a way.

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the incredible desert moms raising the next generation right here among the rocks of Hueco Tanks. ✨

Swim on over to Hueco Tanks and immerse yourself in the culture and stories embedded within the rocks. You can spend a lifetime watching the beauty in nature flowing through the desert. This will be the only place you wanna be.

Snow at Hueco Tanks doesn't last long-but its magic does❄️

In the desert, snow means water, slowly soaking into the rock and filling the tanks that have supported life here for thousands of years. People, plants, and animals have all depended on these huecos to get by.

As the snow melts, it leaves a quiet reminder to pause, notice, and appreciate the water that makes Hueco Tanks so special 💧🤍
