Getting educated and knobs 123! Turns out my recent Florida find was built in 1959! It came with the Strat knobs. I knew, when I bought it, that I had those “deco” knobs in my parts case but didn’t end up digging them so I grabbed a couple of black & silver knobs off of one of my old tube hi-if’s and that’s scratching the itch for me (pic 3). The history of #danelectro is really interesting and intertwined with so many factors beyond innovation, including business smarts and good timing. This thing is from the first half of their guitar-making golden era. They made amps from just after WWII. I’v always referred to this genre of guitar as Ameritrash (and I love em!) but this thing is awakening a deeper respect within me. Pretty sure ya’ll will be seeing this thing on the gig!!! @danelectroguitar by @hugh_pool

The final leg of my summer was accompanying MaMa to her home in SW Florida. While there I found this guy on FB marketplace and I’ve always had an eye out for one. It’s a late 1960’s #danelectro Convertible; an ultimate “beach guitar” or “sofa guitar”. Sure is fun to play! I met the seller at an AmVets post. It was a pretty classic parking lot meetup. He’d kinda miss represented the thing and after noticing my disappointment, he let me have it for $200 bucks and walked right back into the bar. I said, “hey, I’ll buy you a drink”! He indicated that wasn’t necessary and disappeared back into the mirrored-window bar. Don’t know his story but I’m certain that some sort of heroic journey lies behind the old-timers eyes. Gotta shout out to the freaking INCREDIBLE Sunshine Ace Hardware on Bonita Beach Road! They had correct size little machine screws and compression springs to mount the pickup properly! That dust bunny fell out of the guitar and it’s so perfect I’m gonna put it on Reverb for $200 bucks!🤣 Nah, I stuck it back in the sound hole. #danelectroconvertible Ps - isn’t that turn around in Southern Nights the coolest? Apparently Jerry Reed taught it to Glenn Campbell and Glen used it to turn an Alen Tousaint composition into a big time hit song! by @hugh_pool

Saturday morning at the woodshed. Trying to stay in tune, stay sharp and stay useful. Little before/after cleanup jobs with Paul and our 2yr old #stihl MS 291. We used a WB model for 30+ years. Hopefully we can approach that longevity with this one but I don’t guess it’ll be me using it in 30yrs. So far, pretty happy with it. by @hugh_pool
