POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Paying homage to where my music taste and sound came from.

Commute is a representation of both old and new — weaving together classics with the sounds of this decade.

I want to personally thank @bigmeesch for pushing me to really do the work, and own the creative process around storytelling and learning something new. 🫡

Also want to thank @ceg_sy for taking a chance with the boy from DP / videographer standpoint. Honestly can’t tell you how much i appreciate you seeing the vision and working endlessly to get the final cuts / edits in to make this happen and @maeganrosesc for being the best assistant on set ! 🎥

Another person I want to thank is Logan for playing 10 year old me for sure the star of the entire group. The interactions between him and my mom has my crying remember when I was his age and my mom raising me✨

@laurence.troutman for making the kid look extra good and put together with the fits. Grateful to just have the opportunity work with you and your skill/talent for putting together looks is magical.

Last but not least I want thank my mom for being so down to help out with project and stepping out of her comfort zone (lowkey she enjoyed this whole process more than me), and continuously supporting me and all my passions. You and pops have been my biggest inspo and wouldn’t be here without yall.

I remember a long time ago being asked how I landed in music and DJing. I told the story about how the homies @chantelmt and @jeremy.letran basically gave me the opportunity to explore a new interest through @2degreesnyc. Three years later, I’m playing tons of different events and venues and really becoming an artist, which still kinda blows my mind.

But I started digging deeper into how this came about — how I’ve been naturally growing in this space, almost effortlessly — and the one thing I keep landing on is the time spent with my mom. Riding home from school, she’d turn on 105.1 and I’d listen to all the classics we love: Whitney, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Angie Stone.

I believe that’s the core of my growth and this transition into a new space and a new version of myself. I wanted to encapsulate that into a project where I bring old and new together — an EP of edits I know my mom would approve of.

So I present to you Commute, my first real body of work expressing my journey to becoming an artist, which started years ago as a kid going to and from school.

I’m hosting a special listening party at the one and only @jolenesoundroom next Thursday, hit the link in bio for the free RSVP

A vivid memory I’ve always had is the loud radio in my mom’s bathroom that would go off at 6am on the dot. She’d wake up, start getting ready, and ask me to help put on her necklace just before we’d leave — all while the radio blasted some of the classic neo-soul records we love today.

It’s these subtle moments where I believe my mom’s taste in music and fashion started to resonate in me. Even in those 30 seconds, she gave me a glimpse of how she started her day and the importance of showing up as the best version of yourself — whether that means putting on a song, a suit, or both. That work, that mindset, matters.

This visual represents that moment — one that has shaped how I think about my days and how I want to show up in the world.

For those interested, I’m hosting a special listening party at the one and only @jolenesoundroom next Thursday. Just comment “COMMUTE” to receive the RSVP link 🔉

If you not having fun, what are we actually doing? 😇

Here’s 1 of the visualizers we put together for commute, I wanted to do something showing off the huge jackfruit tree my parents planted years ago. With one of my favorite tracks from the EP (besttalkwehad).

every Juneteenth is a full circle moment for me.

Moving back to Miami after Covid I had the opportunity to host Juneteenth once it became a national holiday because of the boy @bilal_brooks.

From that moment I slowly found myself working on more and more events / experiences. Soon after I was djing for @2degreesnyc few months later.

Reflecting Juneteenth is not only a celebration for the emancipation of African Americans, but represents opportunity to fight for the life you want. For me this day/event I believe was a huge catalyst in my progression as an artist and so grateful to have the opportunity to do it again with @sohohouse fam.

If you are free next Friday and want to hear some of the sonics from our ancestors continent / diaspora. I’m talking 3 step, amapiano, batitida, and even some soulful house.

blessed beyond belief.

I was talking @bigmeesch last week about how God laughs at the plans we make for ourselves, and promises that whatever you think He’ll exceed abundantly

last night, being able to sit front stage at @kidsuper SS27, was an example of that

s/o to the whole gang for making this happen and especially the secret agent @vernellanthonyd and the goat @djcardi_
