A space to explore movement beyond words, free our bodies from repetitive patterns, and discover the joy of spontaneous connection with others.

From 7:30 PM, Hugo Marmelada, @hugomarme, aka DJ Marmelouz, dance teacher, dancer and choreographer, will guide us through a physical exploration full of challenges and experiments, helping us connect with our bodies and with those dancing alongside us.

An invitation to curiosity, spontaneity, and the pure pleasure of dancing and celebrating together.

It’s our first edition, so it might also turn into a beautiful kind of chaos! Let’s find out together.

Dear Harstad and Norway,

MEET OUR NEXT JUDGE!

I’m incredibly excited to welcome @hugomarme to the judging panel for @harstad.orbit Battle Vol. 3 — January 23rd at @harstadkulturhus!

Born in Lisbon, Portugal 🇵🇹 Hugo’s journey began in hip-hop culture at just 11 years old, before leading him into professional contemporary dance — and throughout his career, he has continued to move between these worlds rather than choosing one over the other.
And what a journey it has been.

Hugo has worked with some of the most respected names and companies in international dance, including Batsheva Dance Company, the Norwegian National Ballet, Carte Blanche, Bounce Streetdance Company, and choreographers such as Ohad Naharin, Jiří Kylián, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Crystal Pite, Sharon Eyal and Alexander Ekman, among many others.

But while building this extensive career in contemporary dance, he never left the battle circle behind.
He won Eurobattle in 2009, the Swedish Juste Debout qualifier at Streetstar in 2012, and is a two-time Soul Sessions Encounters winner in Oslo, most recently in 2026. He has also judged all-styles battles and dance competitions internationally.

That combination is exactly what makes Hugo such an exciting judge for Orbit.

He understands the discipline and depth of the stage, but he also understands the unpredictability of the circle. Choreography and freestyle. Contemporary dance and hip-hop culture. Performance and battle.

Today, Hugo is also a choreographer, certified Gaga teacher and educator, sharing his knowledge across professional companies, schools and international workshops.

For a concept built around different movement languages meeting each other, I couldn’t be happier to have an artist who has spent so much of his life moving between worlds without having to choose between them.

My first time at @goatcommunity.pt sharing my love for dance thanks to the invitation of the amazing @mushinamusic and collaborating as well with @katia_buben Thank you so much for having me again! ❤️

It was such a joy to share the pleasure of moving together. I truly feel in my element when I get to guide people through dance and witness everyone connecting to their bodies.

I roots as a dancer are in hip hop culture, and what I fell in love with was its values: community, unity, peace, parties, creativity, self-expression and silliness. Over time, I feel like many spaces have become more focused on competitions, battles, crews, and proving yourself.

That’s why experiences like this resonate with me so deeply. They remind me that dance is also about celebrating life together, playing, connecting, and creating moments of pure joy. 🌿✨🍃

It’s been a week since the premiere of “Before Concept, There Is Attraction.”
What began as a simple desire to bring together two groups of students who had never met became two sold-out performances and a project that taught me so much.
More than anything, this piece reminded me how important it is to ask for help.
None of it would have been possible without the generosity of so many people.
Thank you @hugocantegrel @monolisboa and @edevaoeiras for believing in this project and helping make it real.
Thank you @studiorudolfoquintas, @taniamguerreiro Guerreiro (@selfmistake) and @jardinsdobombarda Bombarda for the support with equipment.

MONO is pleased to present “Before Concept, There Is Attraction” by Hugo Marmelada, taking place on June 26 & 27.

Bringing together participants from his Gaga classes in Lisbon and Hip Hop/Contemporary students from the Eva Vieira de Almeida School, this work creates a meeting point between different experiences, sensibilities, and ways of dancing.

A performance about what moves us before explanation: attraction, curiosity, and the pleasure of encounter.

A work about trusting what draws us in, even when we don’t yet know exactly why.

A mono tem o prazer de apresentar o espectáculo « Before Concept, There Is Attraction » do coreógrafo Hugo Marmelada a decorrer nos dias 26 e 27 de Junho.

Before concept, there is attraction.
Com coreografia e interpretação de Hugo Marmelada, este espetáculo reúne dois grupos de alunos com quem o coreógrafo trabalha regularmente: participantes das suas aulas de Gaga, em Lisboa, e alunos das suas aulas de Hip Hop/Contemporâneo na Escola Eva Vieira de Almeida, em Oeiras.
Ao longo do último ano foram desenvolvidos trabalhos coreográficos com ambos os grupos. Apesar das diferenças de idade, experiência e relação com a dança, nasceu a vontade de criar um encontro entre eles.
“Before concept, there is attraction” nasce desse desejo de encontro.
Partindo de materiais coreográficos criados com estes intérpretes, a peça explora aquilo que existe antes da explicação, antes da análise e antes da formulação de uma ideia: um impulso, uma curiosidade, uma sensação que nos move em direção a algo.
Entre solos, momentos coletivos e encontros inesperados, surgem diferentes formas de presença, sensibilidade, escuta e prazer de dançar.
Esta é também uma criação sobre confiar naquilo que nos atrai, mesmo quando ainda não sabemos exatamente porquê. by @hugomarme
