first half of 2026. so many music highlights. - ran into my guitar teacher @brandondeonmusic at NAMM - saw the flying fingers of @matteomancuso.guitar and @riccardoliva.bass - listened to the sonic textures drawn by @nahresol - experienced the raw power of @nemophila_band in tokyo - heard more japanese talent in the US during @hoyofair - marvelled at the control that @flawed_mangoes and his crew had over their wall of sound - threw it back to my college days with @hellohonne - saw @shuta_hasunuma play water, a first for me. - oh, and not pictured but was also blessed by the delicate vocals of @ichikoaoba in an impromptu secret live show it is so easy for me to get into my own head and make music a mechanical and mathematical problem to be solved. but there is no substitute for emotion. every one of these artists taught me something different worth incorporating into my own playing. and every one reminds me to play music with a focus on the experience of it. so here's to the 2nd half of 2026 - more listening, more observing, more feeling. by @hulaballoon

sway to my beat in cosmos - hoyo-mix hsr's anniversary live event was this weekend, and all the singing that @snowmisao's cosplay group did inspired me to finish working out a guitar part for one of Robin's songs. I'm very happy with how tight my rhythm is in this video. my left hand often struggles to make the chord changes in time, but today I was able to get it mostly down after some persistence. I'm also happy with the variety of rhythms and textures I have in this arrangement and honestly, I don't know if I've ever played all the way through a song before. so this marks a new personal milestone met! by @hulaballoon

an arrangement of hoyo-mix's "moon halo" that I've been working on. currently trying to make the melody sound more like a voice. it seems to me that a big part of that comes down to mimicking how words sound - the inflections, dynamics, and the micro timings of the syllables. a set of verse and chorus lyrics from the song provided for your convenience: 🎶 some deserts on this planet were oceans once somewhere shrouded by the night the sun will shine sometimes i see a dying bird fall to the ground but it used to fly so high i thought i were no more than a bystander till I felt a touch so real i will no longer be a transient when i see smiles with tears if I have never known the sore of farewell and pain of sacrifice what else should i engrave on my mind? 🎶 by @hulaballoon
