What do you mean I won’t be able to follow him everywhere at all times?

I wish I could always be there to explain his needs, make sure he’s understood, and know when something is wrong. I wish I could be there for the moments he can’t tell me about.

But more than wanting to protect him from the world, I want him to live fully in it.

Your story doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be a beautiful one.🤎

@joyrealtoys just gifted me their newest AAC device! 🙌This is an affordable option for families looking to support their child’s communication. It’s lightweight, easy to navigate, and a great option for beginner AAC users.

I’ve gotten so good at reading my son that sometimes I forget we don’t actually have “conversations”. But the truth is we don’t “talk” - at least not in the traditional sense.

And that becomes glaringly obvious to me when I sense that something is bothering him or start to see that he’s burning out. Even when I feel like a Leon expert, sometimes I miss cues.

This week, a few days went by before I noticed he was super burnt out. A day off to play and relax was exactly what he needed. I promise I will continue to work on my detective skills, my love. 💙

As autism parents, sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is recognize that our kids have reached their limit and give them permission to rest. 💚💙
