Hi Mommy,

Today is my birthday, and I’m dedicating this day, along with all the well wishes from friends and family, to you. Many people ask why I don’t seem to enjoy celebrating my birthday, and here’s why. This day brings back memories of a beautiful, caring soul—one that left us when I was just 3 years old, and my little sister was only a few months old.

Every year, I think of the strength you showed bringing me into this world and the moments we missed out on together. You left before you could see your son grow, before you could enjoy the fruits of your love, or witness my achievements. I wish you were here to see me take care of you, as you so deserved.

The blurry photo I posted is one of the few pieces of you I have, thanks to my uncles who kept it safe so I could see your face, even if only in a picture. Continue to rest in peace, Alima Hofisi. I know that wherever you are, you’re proud of me. I’ll keep working hard and cherishing your memory until we meet again. by @hullibuttonchinyama

First race with the Wilsonites XC team after 6 weeks of false heart murmur detection. I had thought of quitting cross country for good because there wasn't hope that l was going to run with the team this fall semester. A special mention to my Coach Chris Ramirez for consistently inviting me to all the competitions for supporting our team and taking me to doctor's appointments for my physical clearance. I was not going for training sessions because it's illegal in the USA to run with the team without full physical clearance. All these made me to lose my consistent spirit in running and l was focusing more on my academics since they are my first priority. I was intrigued to see an email from my coach after he received medical examination results from a doctor saying, "Hullibutton you are now cleared come to training tomorrow at 6:15Am. I only trained that one day which was Thursday this week and today we had a 8Km race at Maryville college. Despite the fact of being in front of many other people, l was frustrated with my performance as I ran 8Km with the time l used to run on a 10Km race. I have realized how much inconsistent can easily lower down your regular performance... Never give up or lose hope your time will still come!! by @hullibuttonchinyama

l feel so gleeful whenever l see the positive impact l am imparting to other people especially younger generations. It was a fabulous day with my USAP cross country team at Peterhouse Girls XC Competition.
