Human Inquiri(ey)es: official investigation - through means of creation - into what it means to be human 🧿

I think I’ve actually come to accept and grieve loss fairly well, at least internally. Discussion of death was all but disallowed in my family growing up though - the journey here like writing a cook book from scratch without a kitchen.

In processing the grief of needing to leave vs losing, something/one I love, it’s felt more difficult in some weird ways to be faced with a choice. It’s helping me to reflect and write on some of the things that make leaving so hard. by @human_inquireyes

The month of June in Seattle is pride month, and as my 5th year here comes to a close I’m feeling more thankful than ever for the people who have come before me, fighting for our right to be here, for the right to have pride not just in celebration but primarily in protest . To all my fellow queers who fight to unbecome all the things society told us we should be, who have created the spaces and words for us to come out again as ourselves, I am so thankful.
Sincerely,
This nonbinary rat called Hol by @human_inquireyes

Happy trans day of visibility to my favorite sexy sailor and rat king of the PNW 🏳️‍⚧️ a man of many lives and skills - aside from being just the most genuine and thoughtful friend, family member, and partner your record includes wild Alaskan fishing, tortoise and wildlife tracking/study, the startup/organization of a local street medicine program, sailboat captaining and repairing, to literally tucking your patients into bed as an ER nurse. You amaze me with the energy you show up with for each person and responsibility in your life, and my view of life w you visible in it, is just so much gayer 💖😘 (og meaning) #transdayofvisibility🏳️‍⚧️ by @human_inquireyes

I’m not much of a social media person especially when it comes to sharing my own personal beliefs, but human rights are not personal beliefs

If you’re still proud to be an ‘American’ and you’ve never had access or desire to travel outside the US, it may be a bit more difficult to recognize the weapon that the US is vs. the comfort and nourishment that other countries are. As kids without choice we were already being brainwashed literally pledging allegiance to the flag like an army every morning for YEARS. Our history lessons glazed over anything that didn’t paint the US in the best light, barely touching on anything about anywhere else in the world. Today books are being banned, the internet censored, and historical landmarks and textbooks are being edited to rewrite/remove even more of our atrocities - forcing ‘patriotism’ by ignorance. We were told the US is so amazing because we have freedom here, because we’re a melting pot of immigrants from all over, because we have a country that fights for its people - I naively wanted to believe that when I was younger and I’m embarrassed to say it took traveling and experiencing other places and cultures for the scales to fall from my eyes. Even then I still wanted to see the good, to feel good myself, so much that I looked away when the bad felt like too much - as my privilege allowed. There wasn’t then either, but now there really is absolutely no excuse for not paying attention. America is a gun that steals people and their lives, it’s been since day one. Concealed in white* lies and shiny distractions but now there’s nowhere left to look away - everyone is seeing everything, everywhere, every time - a right to bear arms, concealed carry permitted, as long as you are America’s gun. by @human_inquireyes

The last few years have felt like a blurry fever dream of enormous life changes. Despite the reality of watching our healthcare system crumble before our eyes -both pre and post 2020 - along with the ongoing decline and absence of safety in the US, life has its way of just continuing on.

👁️‍🗨️I moved to Seattle in 2021, just over 4 years ago 👁️‍🗨️
👁️‍🗨️ I lost my sidekick/soul pup Milo suddenly just after his 10th birthday, but not before he could experience prancing around in the snow like a real husky 👁️‍🗨️
👁️‍🗨️I found the most beautiful chosen family here, connection formed out of another of the biggest losses of my life 👁️‍🗨️
👁️‍🗨️I was in a car accident, and also got covid myself, which started a cascade of ongoing medical issues. I’ve added so many diagnoses to my medical chart after a previously clean bill of health - diagnoses I had to fight for, having my symptoms dismissed for years - finally achieving stable health again this year👁️‍🗨️
👁️‍🗨️I met the person who would become my best friend and safe space, my life partner and sailing captain👁️‍🗨️
👁️‍🗨️I have snowboarded and rock climbed and deepened my love of the mountains. I grew my appreciation for my body, finding my flow state in these PNW scapes, having that visual reminder hand poked onto my body by the talented @pablogomez 👁️‍🗨️
👁️‍🗨️I fell in love with sailing and finally brought into reality, my long term dream of tiny living, in a slightly different manner than I had imagined - on the water instead of on wheels - and SV Louise is my little slice of peace, especially now 👁️‍🗨️
👁️‍🗨️Most recently after just shy of a decade in inpatient nursing, I had my last day as a NICU nurse - I’m trading in my badge and long stressful shifts, for a still special gig as an in home newborn nurse/nanny. Those who know me, know how hard of a decision this was for me, choosing my health and body at this time over my passion for loving on the tiniest most vulnerable babes 👁️‍🗨️

And all along the way I’ve been finding these 🎶constant reminders there’s so much more than what I’m seeing 🎶 endlessly grateful for the people in my life that make living worth the fight 💕

This was the first project I completed this year! Inspired by the clutter of all my dogs’ food, treats, and supplies I decided to put my carpentry skills to the test and designed and built this cabinet for all of it! Expect some future woodworking projects from me, as I invested in a table saw for this project, giving me more freedom for future builds! First time building anything with doors/drawers and it’s not perfect but came together better than I expected ☺️
