What does it look like to build a 20’ tall LED art piece using no tools or ladders? Check it out for yourself! @uriel.guy designed this piece in his Manhattan apartment, which can be fully assembled in under 4 hours, and folded down into two surf board bags and two rolling cases. 🙌 @illumination.nyc taken in Robert F Wagner Junior Park by @humanassistedart

Our first gallery show debuted in December 2022, right as emerging technologies were shaking up the traditional art world in unprecedented ways.

From the start, our mission was clear: demystify these new tools and show artists that they weren’t a threat to creativity, but a way to expand, evolve, and elevate it.

With just a few short weeks of prep, we launched a wildly successful event in Chelsea’s gallery district and started something I never thought possible.

Our next show landed us in DUMBO, and thanks to more time and a broader network, we were able to refine the curation and bring our vision into sharper focus.

Our Achilles heel, and the reason we have been unable to create more events, is, well, the rent is just too damn high. *shakes fist angrily*

Securing a large, open NYC space for even a week has cost more than we care to admit, forcing us into a constant hustle to cover rent and expenses. It’s drained resources we hoped to use for paying volunteers and pursuing bolder ideas.

Now, we’re thrilled to be partnering with ChaShaMa, an organization that champions equity and inclusion in the arts by transforming vacant real estate into creative spaces for artists, makers, and dreamers.

For the past three weeks, we’ve been working nonstop to turn a corner of 30,000 square feet of midtown office space into something magical.

If all goes well, this will be just the beginning. Our goal is to find and create a space that inspires, educates, and celebrates the powerful intersection of art, community, and technology.

Thank you so much to @chashama for including us in this magical and bizarre experience. Thank you to our unbelievable team of artists and doers for your effort and partnership. And thank you to @fade.2.blake , my teammate, my co-conspirator, and my beacon of calm in this madness. Thank you for following me down every rabbit hole and leaning into this adventure of being alive, even when all you want to do is sit down for 5 freaking minutes. 😂

Please come say hello to @humanassistedart tonight at the ChaShaMa Gala, 5th floor, room 61! We can’t wait to see you! taken in New York, New York by @humanassistedart

Still so grateful for how this project came to be. Thank you to everyone who dedicated so much of their energy, time, resources, and creatively to breathe some life into Human-Assisted Art v2.0. And thank you @fifsterfil for this incredible video recap!

We are already scheming and dreaming about the next event! If you’d like to get involved, join our monthly community dinners, or show your work at the next exhibit, please get in touch! As beautiful and fun as the gallery is, building community around it is our primary goal.

🖼️ Timelapse (Terra Infirma) by Lake Heckaman @water__shed is an interactive painting inspired by the competing timescales of humanity and nature: Terrain elevations rise and fall as pixels are almost imperceptibly blown by swirling clouds and swept away by undulating ocean currents in an endless dance. Procedural and interactive gestures disrupt the canvas, creating the illusion of progress while leaving only an ephemeral mark.

🖼️ Inspired by the beautiful interconnectedness of nature, Lake explores the subjectivity of lived experience through interactive installations connecting digital worlds to the built environment within which they are experienced.

✨Star Spore by Ross Kessler @hackalope.studio
A large, glowing star encased in a stellated octahedron hangs suspended in the air, surrounded by a dozen smaller spores. The main star pulses slowly and quietly, inviting participants to touch. Activating the star sends out its biochromatic energy to charge the nearby spores.

✨Philadelphia-based artist, designer, and fabricator Ross “Hatter” Kessler specializes in interactive installations. Using light and story as his primary media, he creates playscapes of surprise and wonder. His installations and LED costume collaborations lend themselves to environments that enchant the audience to connect and explore as active participants. His work has been exhibited at NYFW, festivals as large as Burning Man, and themed events and attractions across the east coast.
