The documentary captures the once in a generation moment in NYC when WorldPride came to the United States for the first time to commemorate 50 years since the Stonewall Riots. Rare footage from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 2019 will help to answer questions like, “Who in our community ultimately got left behind? Why did this happen? What are the lasting effects, and how do we resolve them?”

Pride is a Protest!

On Wednesday, @genderlib + @actupny picketed three hospitals that abandoned trans youth and their families. Christen, the mom of two trans kids, had her children’s healthcare cut off after NYU Langone bowed to Trump’s attacks on trans youth. If hospitals can cut off one group of patient's care due to political attacks, they can cut off anyone.

We organized an open letter signed by 23 current and former NYC Pride Grand Marshals calling o @nycpride to ban hospitals that have ended care for trans youth until they restore those services.

While NYC Pride did not meet the demand, community pressure made an impact: NYU Langone withdrew from marching in Pride, and NYC Pride invited Christen to speak at its press conference.

Pride should never provide a platform to institutions that abandon our community. We hope NYC Pride bars any medical provider that has cut off trans youth healthcare from future Pride celebrations until they fully restore care. by @humansofpridee

@newfest @nycpride & @nyc_molgbtqia united to amplify the award winning documentary @HumansofPridee for its second annual free public screening. This time in Washington Square Park. It was a perfect night for under the stars! ✨ Humans passing by stopped for the movie and became fast friends, while partners held hands. Tears of sadness and celebration were felt as we shared in the history of Pride.

Iconic moments in LGBTQ+ activist history played out on screen in the same place where they happened over 50 years ago. This is the power of film, this is the importance of celebrating our story and remembering who we are and where we come from.

Thank you for everyone involved that volunteered their time and energy to put this together. Thank you to our community leaders @taymer333 and @tabythagonzalez for your love and words and to @feminizazn for holding the fort down! 💜💐

* **8:30 PM** – *Humans of Pride* Feature Film Screening

New York - Come to Washington Square Park for a free outdoor movie night and community rally! We’ll be screening the acclaimed feature documentary Humans of Pride, which captures the historic energy of WorldPride 2019 and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

Charting the movement’s evolution through rare archival footage, the film features iconic community voices like @dominiquet.a.r.jackson and @gaysagainstgunsny while spotlighting local trans and queer history right where it happened. Seats will be available though bring a blanket just in case!
